Clickable Stock Symbols Come to Twitter, Usurping StockTwits

For several years +StockTwits has done a great job of extracting stock symbols from messages on Twitter by using the "$" symbol prefix to tags like GOOG for Google's stock symbol. Now Twitter has finally - finally! - wised up and done likewise. Did some negotiation with StockTwits go south and compel Twitter to play less nice with its ecosystem? Or are they just finally waking up after all of these years to different ways to provide contextual content that can be monetized? Beats me. In any event, it would be interesting to give +Google+ Pages owners with listed stocks the opportunity to embed their stock prices in their pop-up profile cards and pages.  No-brainer on the tech side, Google already takes in stock exchange feeds.
