Interesting graphic of Domestic Electricity Costs in various Countries from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change. We see our "Green" places such as Denmark, and Germany have electricity costs are now greater than 3x what it costs in US and Canada. I wonder how the ratepayers like this situation?

Dismantling ski lifts and moving villages: Alps adapt to climate change .

Maybe the German program to dismantle operating zero-carbon producing nuclear plants-- should be dismantled rather than the ski lifts!

I don't know how many engineers out there recognized that the EU's Rosetta mission to land on a comet failed because of the choice to power the Philae lander via intermittent solar cells rather than an isotope thermionic power source.

Although how the design decisions were made, are not public, I have to assume European #Radiophobia and love of all things #Solar had to play some role in their power supply choices.

German Green Energy is actually burning "Brown Coal" to make up for intermittent renewable energy.
At a time of mounting concern about climate change, governments are under pressure to introduce renewable sources of energy in order to cut greenhouse gas emissions. No nation has embraced the challenge more fervently than Germany. Under a policy

As if by democratic lobotomy, the abolition of nuclear energy has been unanimously approved.
After the catastrophe that led to its genesis, postwar Germany learnt many lessons. The two virtues it seems to have mastered to perfection are sobriety and prudence. Once and for all, the country has eradicated all passion from political life.

The key point:

"Europe made the wrong bet. In the long run, making fossil fuels more expensive by subsidising renewables and charging for carbon emissions could bring the EU a steady supply of clean, cheap energy. At the moment, it is nullifying the benefits of lower energy prices and giving European companies an incentive to relocate."

The price of oil keeps on falling; the shale gas boom has reduced the price of natural gas in the US to a third of that in France; Germany has appealed to Sweden for its support in expanding two coal mines; and the EU’s effort to switch to clean

This was opening day at Breckenridge on Friday November 14th. They had over 30" of new snow. When the Ski Patrol opened new slopes with virgin powder it was like a Chinese Fire Drill.

Working throughout the World -- Living the Ski Bum's Dream in the Colorado Mountains
Introduction
I'm a nuclear engineer with 39 years of experience in commercial nuclear power plants, including the design, licensing, upgrading, testing of reactor control systems. I have performed and managed Probabilistic Risk Assessments since the early 1980's and personally knew and worked with Prof.Norman Rasmussen of MIT. I was a member of the Peer Review Panel of NUREG-1150. Occasionally I teach university level nuclear engineering courses -- particularly reactor dynamics. I live in the mountains southwest of Denver CO and enjoy downhill and back-country skiing, mountaineering, and fly fishing.
