The article is in Spanish but the accompanying video tells the whole story in English... the story of a Boxer (as in a dog) named Romeo who was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer... and the owner decided to write a bucket list for Romeo and then set about to fulfill it!  A beautiful story for a beautiful part of their family!

Volcano spews molten rock, gas cloud in Ecuador

+NBC News: The Tungurahua volcano near Banos, Ecuador, spewed molten rocks and ash on Friday, forcing NOAA to issue an advisory for an ash cloud in the region.

The stratovolcano, which has been classified as active since 1999, also erupted in February of this year.

+Leland Beaudrot No doubt there is activity there. Whether its the usual or the fortelling of something much bigger we will see. The data from scientists doesn't suggest an iminent super-eruption, but then again... would I want to know if we were on the verge of an event that would kill over half of North America?  Probably not.

When I lived in Manchester as a child, I grew to hate the rain... but now that I live in the arid climate of Santiago, Chile, I miss it!!  So yesterday when we drove south to Concepción, which is a totally different climate to Santiago, and ran into rain showers, it was a glorious sight!

When we drove down the road that led to our hotel, this was the view on our left... so I had to stop on the side of the road and try to capture the beautiful contrasts in all its glory!

This is my second stay at Hotel Diego de Almagro in Concepción and I must say that I love it... clean, modern, comfortable rooms. Although it is located next to a highway, the double-pane, thermal windows keep the traffic noise out of the room. The AC unit in the room works great but I must admit that I wish it did not blow directly over (and on) the bed. The in-house restaurant has great food so I do not bother to search for another option... their salmon, as well as their salad bar are fantastic. Highly recommended for the business traveler.

Great, centrally located, cabins that are close to Villarrica & Pucón yet still in the countryside. Only 5 minutes from Ruta 5, to give quick access to cities north & south. Owners speak fluent Spanish, English, and German. We stopped by to stay one night and ended up staying 3! --- UPDATE --- Went back during the 18 de septiembre holidays (2013), stayed in the same cabin... had a great time! Enjoyed the fireplace (they supply the wood) at night, although be aware that as the fire dies down at night, it can get chilly and you will need to restart the fire. I usually had to do this 2 or 3 times a night.

Nice facility... Front desk was understaffed but friendly and efficient. The restaurant was nice but the wait staff seemed untrained and the menu limited and the food was okay at best. The rooms are small but we'll designed, comfortable and efficient. The wifi was temperamental. Supposedly my room would have an ocean view but as you can see in the attached photo, the ocean view was a joke! Overall, a very nice facility and I will stay here again.

Nice facility... Front desk was understaffed but friendly and efficient. The restaurant was nice but the wait staff seemed untrained and the menu limited. The rooms are small but we'll designed, comfortable and efficient. The wifi worked well in the rooms and is free. My only complaint is that my room was supposed to have an ocean view but as you can see in the attached photo, the ocean view was a joke! Overall, a very nice facility and I will stay here again.
