Spent a wonderful day at Datto Backup my favorite Cloud Back up and Disaster Recovery provider. Meeting new faces and networking with other local Managed Service Providers. Datto is my main and vital provider to protect clients most important data and keeping them running in case of disaster including after #ransomware infections. I have real admiration for this company. In 10 years they went from a guy #AustinMcCord in a garage in Wilton to now 700 employees.
Interesting tidbit, they backup now 200 Peta bytes of customer data. Any idea of how much that is? That's 200,000 1TB hard drives or 200,000,000GigaBytes.

IRS: Scam Blends CEO Fraud, W-2 Phishing - Most regular readers here are familiar with CEO fraud — e-mail scams in which the attacker spoofs the boss and tricks an employee at the organization into wiring funds to the fraudster. Loyal readers also have heard an earful about W-2 phishing, in which crooks impersonate the boss and request a copy of all employee tax forms. According to a new “urgent alert” issued by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, scammers are now combining both schemes and ...

As President Obama put it at the White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection, “It’s one of the great paradoxes of our time that the very technologies that empower us to do great good can also be used to undermine us, and inflict great harm.” - Can't say it better myself. Protect your network with the pros.

I feel for Guy, the owner of Bailiwick Roofing for being scammed by the bookkeeper - of all people. In most small organizations, the accountant and bookkeeper often have special elevated privileges. But with privilege comes responsibility of both the business owner and employees.
Fraud prevention starts with an attitude of security in the business. The old adage holds true, trust is good but verification is better. What is especially important is that many banks do not make whole small businesses is case of fraud, as opposed to consumers. This places increased importance on having controls in place.
Agood start is having “Fraud Statements” with all three credit reporting agencies, setting up email notifications of changes in an account, and never let employees sign checks. A good idea is sending account statements to a non-business address.
Since I am in Information Technology supporting small business, a secure IT environment with good passwords and least privilege access to computer network shares keeps data safe. Over and over I see so-called peer to peer networks with huge security holes in them. A small investment in a true server environment with Active Directory increases security quite a bit, especially when compared with the risk of losing large amounts to dishonest employees and crooks.

Your company keeps you so busy it’s easy to put off thoughts of disruption and disaster. Until you’re in one.

Would you be ready today if: A faulty fuse starts a fire leaving your work space in shambles? A hurricane knocks out your power for a week and employees can’t get to work?  Hackers crash your computer system and violate private client information?

Fires, prolonged power outages, blizzards, floods—incidents and natural forces like these can strike with little or no warning, threatening your company’s existence. Don’t be a statistic. With a comprehensive, well-crafted disruption and disaster recovery plan you significantly improve your business’ resilience and well-being in the event of emergency.

Nigerian Email Scam still alive and well after 30years! This time with a twist.
My Dear, I am Mrs Connie Dutton, I am a US citizen, 51 years Old. I reside here in Silver Springs Florida. I am thinking of relocating since I am now rich. I am one of those that took part in the Compensation in Nigeria many years ago and they refused to pay me, I had paid over US$20,000 while in the US, trying to get my payment, all to no avail.
So I decided to travel down to Nigeria with all my compensation documents, .... Right now I am the most happiest woman on earth because I have received my compensation funds of $1.5 Million US Dollars._
