Visual Strangeness: Photos by Bjørg-Elise Tuppen

Surreal photo-manipulations combining out of context elements such as whales floating in the sky or a giraffe in a snow-covered landscape that makes for a thought-provoking series.
"I love to use and experiment with different medias such as painting, drawing, photography, typography and digital collage, as well as mix them to explore and create different moods, effects and expressions. My style is not set or limited, but ever evolving and seeking."

Bjørg-Elise Tuppen is a photographer and graphic designer based in Harstad, Norway.

Heiemo og Nykkjen
"Heiemo kvad, det song i li.
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
Det høyrde nykkjen, på havet skrid,
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Heiemo kvad, det song i li.
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
Det høyrde nykkjen, hei'innund.
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Nykkjen tala til styringsmann:
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
Du styre mitt skip på kristne land!
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Eg vil meg på kristne land gå,
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
Den vene jomfruva vil eg få.
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Så gjeng han seg i stova inn
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
med høge hatt og blomekinn
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Nykkjen han dansa, og Heiemo kvad,
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
det gledde alt folket i stogunne var
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

No må kvor gange heim til seg,
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
Heiemo tek eg på skipet med meg.
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Heiemo, Heiemo, still di harm,
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
du sku sove på nykkjens arm.
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Ho stakk til nykkjen i holamot,
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
odden han rann i hjarterot
For de hev sove tidi for lengje.

Her ligg du, nykkjen, fyr ravn og hund
vakna dikko ædelege drengje
enno hev eg min kvedarlund.
For de hev sove tidi for lengje."

Heiemo and the Water Spirit

Heiemo sang her poem:
-Wake up you noble youngsters
The Water spirit heard it, striding on the sea
-Because you now have overslept

The Water spirit spoke to his helmsman
-Wake up you noble youngsters
Steer my ship to the Christian land
-Because you now have overslept

The Water spirit danced and Heiemo sang her poem:
-Wake up you noble youngsters
It pleased all the folks in the houses
-Because you now have overslept

Heiemo, Heiemo, quiet your sorrow
-Wake up you noble youngsters
Υou shall sleep in the arms of the water spirit.
-Because you now have overslept

Shaimaa 1 and 2
Two art sculptures by Norwegian artist Anne Berit Nedland
Seen on an exposition in Ål, Kulturhus, January 4, 2017

Shaimaa's Story
Shaimaa is one of the asylum children who were wrongly deported out of Norway in November 2014.
Figure one shows her at school the day she was picked up by the police. The second figure shows her in war-torn Yemen in 2015. Shaimaa and her family are now back in Norway on a one year temporary residence permit.

On the photo you can see a girl, and her name is Shaimaa.

I found her name on the wall of an exhibition in Ål Kulturhus, next to two impressive sculptures, created by the artist Anne Berit Nedland. These two sculptures belong together, and exactly these two make a deep impression. The one sculpture shows a fearful Shaimaa, dressed in her original country's traditional dress and head scarf, the other one is the new Shaimaa, dressed in modern clothes, shy, but there. Such a huge inner transformation must have taken place! Photos of these sculpture appear later on this page.
