Joel Santos was born in 1978 in Lisbon, Portugal. He holds an honors degree in Economics and a master‘s degree in Economics and Management of Science and Technology. Despite his academic background, he has dedicated the last six years to his greatest passion: photography.
His images cover many different photographic genres, from landscapes and portraits to macrophotography and photojournalism. The common thread throughout all of his work is his masterly use of composition and light, which renders his photography unique.
His photographs and writings are frequently published by photography, travel and corporate magazines and he has won several national and international photography awards for his work. His work has also been shown in several individual and collective exhibitions, namely in Portugal, Poland and East Timor.
From September 2007 until May 2010, he was the Editor in Chief of “O Mundo da Fotografia Digital”, the portuguese bestselling photo magazine. In October 2007, he wrote and published the major Portuguese manual of photography "Fotografia" (2010) and of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (2007).
Today, Joel Santos is a full time professional photographer, book author and article/chronicle writer. He tutors Photography in Portugal and all around the World, using his unique ability to communicate passionately about his craft and his vast experience as a traveller.
