“One year ago, we learned that the Internet is under surveillance, and our activities are being monitored to create permanent records of our private lives — no matter how innocent or ordinary those lives might be. Today, we can begin the work of effectively shutting down the collection of our online communications, even if the US Congress fails to do the same. That’s why I’m asking you to join me on June 5th for Reset the Net, when people and companies all over the world will come together to implement the technological solutions that can put an end to the mass surveillance programs of any government. This is the beginning of a moment where we the people begin to protect our universal human rights with the laws of nature rather than the laws of nations. We have the technology, and adopting encryption is the first effective step that everyone can take to end mass surveillance. That’s why I am excited for Reset the Net — it will mark the moment when we turn political expression into practical action, and protect ourselves on a large scale. Join us on June 5th, and don’t ask for your privacy. Take it back.”

A month or so ago I realized the community needed some nice interactive maps of KSP bodies, and decided it might make a fun side project. Some time last week I uploaded the last of the maps and made an announcement forums and the subreddit. Here it is, in case you missed it.

+Nikolai Hedler Unfortunately not at the moment. It's up upstream bug and I'm busy enough working on kerbalmaps that I don't have time to go squash it.

Technically: I could make it wrap using a spherical mercator projection (default for most web maps), but there are a number of reasons I wont for this project. I can list them if you'd like.

Guenther makes a good case against the floppy as a symbol for saving. I'm still undecided on the premise of his argument, but I'm not at all a fan of his proposed icons. Please comment on original post, some decent discussion going on there.

New blog article by +Guenther Beyer:

Floppy – Happily Saving Since 1980
An Iconic Proposal

http://blog.opoloo.com/articles/floppy-happily-saving-since-1980

Why in the world do we still use an outdated metaphor for a process so fundamental as “saving”? We should not grow accustomed to things so much that we become unable to question them. It makes progress and imagination harder to achieve. Here is a proposal, a case for change.

I meant that his proposed alternative only makes sense in the context of that lifecycle. I do agree that floppies are terribly outdated... plenty of people have probably never handled one before.

Personally I agree with the saying "The only intuitive interface is the nipple, everything else is learned"

Nesting Fragments in a ViewPager.

A new solution to an old problem: Back in August Mark Murphy of +CommonsWare asked Twitter how to show multiple children in a ViewPager and received a few interesting responses. My own solution was a custom view pager containing one ViewGroup (with its own view hierarchy) per page, similar to  +Nicolas Klein's  but a bit more generic. I refactored that code this morning to use a simple FragmentPagerAdapter instead. Each page consists of a single fragment which in turn contains more fragments. Here is an example, compatible alllll the way back to API v4.

I got rid of good bit of code, and what was left was much more elegant. Nested fragments are really nice.

Hey Joel, I was having a problem using multiple fragments with the ViewPager.  It wasn't exactly like what you posted here, but what you posted helped me figure out what my problem was.  Anyways, just wanted to thank you.

Oh hey, my post on nested Fragments in a ViewPager made it into the latest issue. Slow week in #AndroidDev, not that we get many of those these days.

I actually skipped a week because I'm on vacation and it's been a slow week with articles :-) I see plenty of new stuff coming though; no rest for the weary!
