U.S. companies spent more than $150,000,000,000 on training each year. Yet research shows that as much as 90% of all corporate training doesn’t lead to a sustained improvement in performance or change in behavior. Too often it's insufficiently targeted, delivered by the wrong people, and measured incorrectly.
So while not impossible, this makes it extremely difficult to train an average performer to become a superstar. You’re much better off hiring someone already in the 90th percentile than settling for someone in the 40th and trying to turn them into a superstar.
