I hate when authors get caught up in these schemes, and have had to deal with this repeatedly over the years. Do yourself a favor and don't get trapped. +Judith Briles tells you why:
I’ve worked with several clients who have been lured, hooked and now are sinking. The cause: a publishing predator is in their midst, a subsidy publisher.

I love this article because it's one of the best I've seen that's short, to the point, yet contains the kind of valuable information you tack up on your wall so you never forget it. From +Judith Briles
7 Rules to be Successful as an Author by Judith Briles explains that authors all have an idea of what author success would look and feel like, and offers rules for you to follow to get where you want to be in your vision as a self-published author.

Story
Introduction

Here’s my goal, simply put:

To help publishers and authors who decide to publish their own books get to market with a great looking, properly constructed book, on time and on budget.

I help create books for publishers and authors who decide to self publish. Award-winning book design, typography and photography books are a specialty. I am also the author of two self-published books. I run freewriting and self-publishing workshops and enjoy cooking, baking, and spending time with my family.

At my blog, TheBookDesigner.com, I write articles about book design, self-publishing, the future of books, and the indie publishing life. If you want to publish a book, come on over and get into the conversation.

I'm also the author of two books: Body Types, originally published in the 1990s looks at how to tell what people are like just by looking at them. And A Self-Publisher's Companion: Expert Advice for Authors Who Want to Publish, which came out in 2011.

Here is a series of articles I wrote to introduce people interested in self-publishing to the wide range of information available. I call the series Self-Publishers Start Here. Here are the topics:

I've recently started offering Q & A sessions to help new self-publishers get up and running fast with their publication plans. You can find out more about this service by clicking through to the Q & A With the Book Designer page.

Now I'm helping authors create better books with book design templates and services at BookDesignTemplates.com using software you already own and know how to use.
