While I'm not going to go into an explanation why (there are plenty of explanation posts on reddit) a whole mess of subreddits on reddit have gone private.  If you use reddit daily, you're probably already aware of this.  If you use it on a less frequent basis, then this might be news to you.  If you don't use it all, then I suppose you don't care.  Anyway, here's a list of subreddits that have gone down in solidarity with /r/IAmA

No idea, though it seemed to have something to do with her disagreeing about methods of monetizing /r/IAmA

Book Trailer for The Familiar Volume 1, a new book by Mark Z. Danielewski.  I've been waiting for this forever.  Preordered and should be in my hands on release day.  Can't wait.

Banshee actually has an Amazon download function but I'll have to change the browser user-agent to convince Amazon I'm on windows, otherwise I can't even get to the AMZ file which is necessary for the download. sigh.

Why do you hate Linux, Amazon?

I'm done.  I can't do it anymore.  The f**king neurologist is moving to a new practice.  I've had to wait months and months to see one, and now, because she's leaving, I have to wait 3 more months.  I'm in constant pain.  My muscles betray me every day.  I just don't know what to do anymore.  I'm so tired of all of it.

Oh, and f**k you +PinnacleHealth  Neurology.  I suppose I'll just have to suffer, but then, that's not your concern, is it.

Dearest Joe.....I dont go on here much but I saw your post and I am so very sorry ... I know we compared health stuff in the past but I did not realize how yours had escalated...I see a neurologist ....at crystal run...dr. fekete he is brilliant....not the warm and fuzzy type but when you hit your level of pain....warm and fuzzy is not all that important....I know how hard it is to find a good one and how long it takes to get in....I will keep you in my prayers my friend....you know how to reach me if you need me....love you.

Cilantro would be a great name, lol. And she actually hadn't grown. She's just eating and her frame is filling out. She was horribly emaciated when we found her.

“That's the thing about depression: A human being can survive almost anything, as long as she sees the end in sight. But depression is so insidious, and it compounds daily, that it's impossible to ever see the end.”  - Elizabeth Wurtzel, Prozac Nation

The end of Section 215 of the Patriot Act wouldn't stop mass collection even if it became permanent.  We can't become complacent on this issue.  Here's a good segment from On the Media about Executive Order 12333.  It's about 10 minutes long, and well worth a listen.  +OnTheMediawnyc

The current Patriot Act debate suggests that mass surveillance comes primarily from Section 215. But other, less-known programs actually account for most ;of the metadata collected.

This makes me incredibly happy.  I'm really enjoying Ms. Marvel.  Kamala Kahn is such a great character.  I'm glad we're getting some gender equality in comics.  Now I hope to see some racial equality as well.  (The cover of A-Force is very, very white.)

The problem is that Google has market dominance in Europe. In order to be considered a monopoly, you need to have market dominance, and you need to use that dominance to engage in anti-competitive practices.

Google is hated by the EU.  It's pretty obvious.  Google has 90% search market share there.  An American company with that much dominance makes the EU VERY uncomfortable.

Gay Bear, Writer, Avatar of Insomnia
Introduction
Categorized For Easy Reading

About Me(brief)

Gay Bear, partnered.  Techie, geek, Open Source fan, Ubuntu and OS X user, Python Programmer, Avatar of Insomnia.  I like Research for Research's Sake.  I am a huge fan of SETI.  I'm an ENTJ, if that kind of stuff matters at all.  I like Math.

About Me

I'm a deep thinker, a fast talker, and insanely creative at times. I'm a programmer(mostly python), a published writer, and sometimes an amateur graphic artist. I'm liberal, Buddhist, an Open Source fan(without being a nut about it), and very interested in AI(especially NLP). I'm a huge fan of SETI.  I'm generally a nice guy to hang around with.

As to hobbies: I don't watch much TV anymore (no time for mindless, non-interactive entertainment, though I make some exceptions, like Doctor Who), and I rarely go to movies (for pretty much the same reason the added reason of ridiculous costs). I like photography, museums, amusement parks, art galleries, book stores, bargain hunting, listening to music, and I'm open to new ideas.

I love (and live) to read. I'm fond of literary fiction, and especially postmodern literary fiction. If you read Harper's or The New Yorker, we'll probably get along. If you read Rain Taxi and the Quarterly Conversation, we'll definitely get along. I like walking, but given my recent surgery, hiking is a little out of the question.

My Heroes include Joseph Campbell, Will Wright, Sid Meiers, and Guido Von Rossum. My favorite authors are Mark Z. Danielewski and William Faulkner. I'm also fond of Jennifer Egan, Jonathan Lethem, Tim Powers, China Mieville, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Philip K. Dick, Jonathan Franzen, David Foster Wallace, and I really love Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot. My favorite book is "As I Lay Dying" by Faulkner.

I'm a huge fan of SETI.

My Circles

Friends, Family, Acquaintances, Following (generally that's where I put famous people who aren't going to follow me back, lol), Gay Bears, Gay (yes, 2 different circles), Literary, Techie, Geek (Geeks like Tech, Techies *know* tech), Photography, anti-genre, and Interesting People (for people I want to follow but who don't fit in other categories).

Just a heads up:  I won't follow you if:

(None of the following applies if I already know you)

If you follow me and you're following thousands of people: I'm not following you back. There can be no conversations at those levels, as I have discovered on Twitter. Also, if you're a marketer, an SEO specialist, a "Social Media Guru" (or Ninja, or whatever), or your job includes the title "Evangelist", I'm not only going to not circle you: I'm going to block you.
