A close crop of the Red Earth photo posted a couple of days ago showing the details in the Laterite mound.  Laterites are soil types rich in iron and aluminium, formed in hot and wet tropical areas.  Hard to imagine Mitchell, OR. as being a hot, wet tropical area.

Our February trip to Neskowin provided very few photo opportunities because of the weather, however, it did produce a couple of pretty nice sunsets. Taken from the balcony of our condo, I call this "On Golden Sands". Hope you enjoy!

A sojourn into the Columbia River Gorge to photograph waterfalls would hardly be complete without a photograph of the venerable Multnomah Falls. It was spring break and there were 100's of folks around, so I could not get the shot of the entire 2 levels of falls, but rather, had to shoot over the heads of people in front of me. Notice the section of the foot bridge broken out by a falling rock. The bridge is blocked off and that is as far as you can go. Interesting to note, that while I was up at the foot bridge, some people came down the other side to cross the foot bridge, which they couldn't do and they had to hike back across the trail they came down. Long ways.

The Painted Hills State Park near Mitchell, OR. is a visual buffet from front to back.  This shot highlight the textures of the Red Earth along with Nature's struggle to grow in this arid enviroment.

do you remember the Eagles song "I've Got A Peaceful, Easy Feeling"!  This shot reminds me of that song!

Interesting bit of macro photography.  This shattered window from an old truck is approximately 1/4 inch thick and in order to get it in focus from the front to the back, I needed to go to f/11 with a 105 macro lens.

Yes, here comes another waterfall. This one is the ever-gorgeous Latourell Falls. This one is the first one you come to when heading up the gorge (old highway) from Portland. It certainly has a timeless beauty with it's straight 249' drop. This is the lower falls-haven't been to the upper falls yet. Enjoy! Listen to the russssshhhhh!

Taken below Bridal Veil Falls in the Columbia River gorge, I thought the movie format of 16:9 would do justice to this beautiful scene.  Later in the spring, I am sure the green lush would be better, but this was pretty good!  Do you like this format?

Awesome is hardly enough to describe the night time workshop in Shaniko, OR. on Saturday with Christian Heeb. Not only did he show us points of interest, Christian gave targeted instruction for the type of shooting we were doing at the time. Loved it all and want to thank everyone who led and everyone who participated for making this a world-class adventure.
