One advantage of learning traditionally correct grammar, vocabulary, usage, etc., even for those who do not regard them as normative, is that without such knowledge one will be unable to pick up on subtle distinctions in writers who do use them. - Roderick Long

Good food and good service. The menu might be identical to Margarita's.

Saturday morning brunch 09/11/14 Competent but unenthusiastic and possibly under-trained service Ticket time was abysmal, food was reasonably warm. (Though my MIL's stuffed french toast did not seem hot or fresh.) Additionally, when a sausage link rolled off of a plate, and on to the server's tray, the server absconded with the pork and the pigs charged us for the link. The eggs Benedict was good and the home fries were prepared well, but I thought that the fries recipe was dry and bland. (Admittedly, that's a highly subjective matter of taste--some folks would really enjoy them, I'd wager. I enjoyed them well enough with a little Texas Pete.) The mimosa pitcher was good and was a pretty decent value at ~$14, iirc. While they do offer a nice selection of different coffee drinks, their plain, house-cup-of-coffee was not very good as far as I am concerned. All in all, I'd give this establishment a second try, and may yet do so. If I do, I'll pick a slower day perhaps. It wasn't ridiculously busy when we went, but Saturday mornings in the brunch business can be brutal on restaurant staff. I dont think I encountered issues that probably can't be fixed with competent management. While I can't be sure that the management is generally incompetent, it certainly was that day. (If that sounds harsh, it is what it is. In business, crap at least *ought* to toll up hill!) Nobody ever approached us, besides our server, as we obviously sat and sat there. It's not always possible for management to engage every table, but this restaurant was not that busy at the time. I can and did cut the staff slack, and we did not complain or tip poorly. I'm not out for comps, making people feel badly, or long apologies. I went out for good food. Perhaps the next time this establishment, which clearly has room and potential to shine brightly, will not disappoint. Finally, it's fully possible that my experience at Toast was a one-off fluke. Let's see! /ramble

I write few reviews and rarely complain. That said, good food and great service ought to be recognized--reinforce the positive. .. plus, I'm bored. Great service and great food on a really slow evening--the time when many otherwise-good establishments falter at service and food quality. Relevant: I don't even much like chicken. Much less paying restaurant prices for boneless, skinless, flavorless, cardboard chicken parts. (Sadly, I can no longer remember the names of service staff or the management, which was also professional and readily available to speak with us; although, we had only compliments to give to the manager on duty. The cheese bread with added bacon crumbles and my partner's food were delivered in a timely fashion--hot and fresh. Also, I have had the chx po' boy on a prior occasion. (Take out - which was also good and prepared promptly.) My regular visits to Summerville will continue to include regular visits to this store. Finally, the Kickin' Chicken rewards program, whatever it's called, is no joke. Regular diners will likely find the program to be a real value.
