Jen and I are booked to go on a dream vacation next week. There's only one problem...
Will Joe make it to Asia? Or will a bum foot ruin his dream vacation? Stay tuned.

The Exodus movie comes out this Friday. In anticipation, I wrote an oral history of the actual Exodus. Moses, God and even the Pharaoh were very generous with their time, and I got some great behind-the-scenes stories.
With Exodus Gods and Kings set to open at theaters nationwide Playboy.com sat down with key participants from the movies source material The Bible. What follows is a candid...

I strongly recommend you hand this in during your next employee self-evaluation.

Was bummed to hear The Union was severely damaged in last night's fire. Here's my take on why I hope they rebuild. http://www.thehumorcolumnist.com/remember-union/
Ohio University graduate Joe Donatelli remembers The Union, which burned down in November 2014.

I'm biased, but I think Playboy won Halloween. http://www.thehumorcolumnist.com/playboy-sexy-halloween-costumes-2014/
Check out the Sexiest Halloween Costumes of 2014, which I produced along with a lot of other talented folks at Playboy. #sfw

People aren't going to like this one, I have a feeling.
Maybe you’ve heard from friends, read the articles or seen the videos. Canola, they say, is harmful. Some even claim it’s a killer.Like so many other foods — think eggs and soy — canola oil has been vilified, accused of everything from mad cow disease to skin cancer. While it isn’t perfect (we’ll get to that),...

I'm ready for the rain that's on its way to Los Angeles.

Introduction

Ideological Disclosure
Last updated October 25, 2014

I am an independent voter. If you believe voting for outsiders and writing in candidates is a waste of time, comfort yourself with the knowledge that I live in California, where it doesn't matter how any of us votes.

Financial Disclosure
Last updated October 25, 2014

I earn the majority of my income from Playboy, where I edit and write for the digital team.

I have also earned income from the following organizations in the last 12 months:

Simply Hired, editor. I edit several articles a week for this job search engine's blog. Before Playboy I also wrote for Simply Hired, but I have ceased all byline writing for publications besides my own blogs since becoming part of Big Bunny.

Spin Public Relations, copy editor and writer. Occasionally edit and write press releases and biographies for Santa Monica-based PR firm.

The Ad Council, writer. I wrote social media copy for public service campaigns that were aimed at keeping kids in school and, separately, encouraging young kids to brush their teeth.

Food Network, copy editor. Edited graphics that appeared on the network's social media channels.

Heaven Hill Distilleries, brand humorist. Wrote social media, newsletter, website, marketing, ad and commercial script copy for a vodka brand and bourbon brand.

Reason.com, reporter. Wrote one article, which was quite possibly the least-serious health care article ever published.

Demand Media, reporter. Wrote long, reported health articles for Livestrong and humor columns for Cracked.

Stack Media, reporter. Wrote two articles for Cleveland-based sports magazine.

Thrillist, reporter. Wrote one article, about the best buffets in Los Angeles.

I also earn some income from sales of "Full Griswold" and "The Marching Band Refused to Yield" on Amazon, as well as affiliate sales revenue from links posted on www.joedonatelli.com and www.thehumorcolumnist.com

Freebies: Because my wife is a food/lifestyle journalist, and because I sometimes write about food, we eat free meals at various restaurants throughout Los Angeles. I sometimes write about these restaurants on www.thehumorcolumnist.com. We also sometimes accept free hotel accommodations. I review hot sauces for Playboy, and companies sometimes send me free samples.
