Just days after a mass shooting at a school that took the lives of 17 people-- many children-- CS/HR 157 was passed in the House today in Florida. It "recognizes public health risk created by pornography & acknowledges need for education, prevention, research, & policy change to protect citizens of this state."

Because, of course, they don't have any other public safety concerns right now, right?

Idiots.

Here's your monthly reminder of why we have this problem.

FTA: The United States is one of only three countries, along with Mexico and Guatemala, that begin with the opposite assumption: that people have an inherent right to own guns.

...

After Britain had a mass shooting in 1987, the country instituted strict gun control laws. So did Australia after a 1996 shooting. But the United States has repeatedly faced the same calculus and determined that relatively unregulated gun ownership is worth the cost to society.

...

"In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate,” Dan Hodges, a British journalist, wrote in a post on Twitter two years ago, referring to the 2012 attack that killed 20 young students at an elementary school in Connecticut. “Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”

I need someone who identifies as a Republican to come along and explain themselves. How can anyone be okay with this?

The overwhelming majority of Americans were free of anything that resembled coherent liberal or conservative ideologies — indeed, only “about 17 percent of the public could both assign the terms ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’ correctly to the parties and say something sensible about what the terms meant.”

I knew I was in a bubble when it came to my obsession fascination with politics, but I didn't realize how much.

Something a little lighthearted for your Friday afternoon.

Sometimes, after a long day’s work, you’ve just had enough. So when you hear the president’s motorcade whining its way up Connecticut Avenue toward your apartment in Washington, you instinctively lift your head off the sofa and think: What can I do, in this moment, to be the change I want to see in the world? Across the room, a “Not My President” placard sits behind your softball bat. But there’s no time. So you run to the window and you, you know, resist.

My Dad and his wife May were one of the many families who lost their home in the Tubbs fire in Santa Rosa last week. In a matter of hours, their home, their car, all their belongings and the entire Coffee Park neighborhood was gone.

While my Dad was in the hospital recovering from an emergency appendectomy, May was asleep and woke abruptly to police pounding on her door. She was told to leave immediately and was not able to get any of their belongings except for their two bunnies. As she left, she could see the house three doors down was in flames.

So much of what they lost is irreplaceable, but they can use all the help available to start putting back the pieces of their lives. Many of you have asked what you can do to help, so we set up this page to give friends and family the opportunity to help support them as they recover from this devastating loss.

It is going to be a long journey ahead for them. Thank you for your continued prayers, love and support – it’s incredibly comforting during this difficult time.

Even a simple re-share can help!

Thanks!
