I got into my car this morning and discovered that my #iphone6  running #ios81   could no longer make calls through the car's #bluetooth  connection. After following basic troubleshooting steps, I check to see which apps were updated overnight.

Google Apps Browser Plus by G-Whizz! had been updated and reaches its tentacles into all sorts of iPhone functions. I deleted the app and I could make calls again. I'm posting in case anyone has a similar problem. Troubleshooting steps are listed below for anyone interested.

Symptom: iPhone could connect to car. Car could access contacts and play music. Phone calls would automatically disconnect. I actually had to tell the car to forget my phone before I could call anyone.

Troubleshooting: First I tried restarting the phone. Then I tried forgetting the bluetooth connection and pairing again. Neither of these things worked. Then I tried changing the car's bluetooth settings, disabling certain features, forgetting other phones, etc. None of that worked. That's when I decided to check app updates. Flixster, IMDb, Wikipedia Mobile, and the aforementioned app had all updated. The most likely culprit seemed to be the G-Whizz! app, so that's where I started. As soon as it was deleted, I was able to make calls again.

(Possibly) solving the Jack the Ripper case is a bit of a letdown, much like when Pluto was demoted from its status as a planet. This big mystery we've all been able to wonder about for more than a hundred years is being snatched away by science. It makes me wonder if that killjoy Neil deGrasse Tyson isn't involved in some way. ;-)

An author and a a molecular biologist say they used DNA evidence to identify a serial killer from 1888.
Many people have tried to crack the mystery of who was Jack the Ripper, but with no success so far. Now a new book claims to have finally unveiled the killer's identity using DNA evidence and new techniques of tracing it — but, of course, questions remain.

Are they trying to make things worse? This cop is openly confrontational and seems to be threatening the journalist with physical harm and imprisonment. How can things like this possibly help the situation?

Good to know my cooking partner can join me in the kitchen again this year. MST3K on the iPad transforms endless messes and prep work into fun.
There was a time, in the not-too-distant future-past, when Thanksgiving Day meant Mystery Science Theater. Joel and/or Mike and the bots would offer specially-shot host segments germane to the day of tryptophan, family squabbling, and your creepy uncle…

After getting different answers from 4 different people I'd contacted through customer service by phone and online chat, I went to the store to speak with Seth. He was terrific!!! He didn't just listen to my problem and do the bare minimum, he kept asking the exact right question of the people we had to contact until, together, they uncovered a bit of a mess on Verizon's end that caused my order to appear canceled even though it wasn't really. When I went into the store, my opinion of Verizon was not one I could write without using some R-rated language. After working with Seth, my opinion of Verizon went up considerably. If I have another problem, I will probably go straight to the store or make an appointment with him, because he definitely knows how to find answers and work with customers, even those of us that have already lost 1/2 a day to long wait times on customer service and are at our wit's end.

When I was looking for a new vet, several people at the dog park recommended Dr. Freeman and Sunset Point Animal Hospital. From our first appointment for routine vaccinations, I was very impressed by Dr. Freeman and his staff. Everyone is very considerate and professional, and Dr. Freeman, unlike other vets I've been to, didn't try to sell me a bunch of pie-in-the-sky treatments for my dog's seasonal allergies. I told him how I was handling it, and he said it all sounded fine to him. He answered all of my questions and I was very satisfied. But recently . . . My beloved dog was in severe pain a few weeks ago, screaming and flailing about, after playing by himself upstairs. He was paralyzed in his hind quarter and in extreme discomfort. I immediately when to Sunset Point Animal Hospital, without even calling first. It was clear that this was a medical emergency, and there was no time to waste. The staff was kind and compassionate, which was not easy since I was an absolute mess. Dr. Freeman squeezed us in right away and diagnosed my dog with a slipped disc. He took time to discuss the options with me and my husband, who was on speakerphone. He called to find someone that would take my dog into surgery ASAP, time being of the essence in cases like this. We also discussed my dog's chances and Dr. Freeman gave me honest advice. I trust him completely and do not feel that any of his treatments or recommendations are based on profitability, which is how I've felt at some vets in the past. He got us an appointment at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists. This was wonderful because it was a shorter drive and the place in Tampa that was a contender is one that I used during a gastrointestinal emergency and found to be lacking in compassion, communication, and bedside manner. It's been a little over three weeks, and thanks to Dr. Freeman and the excellent surgeon he recommended, my dog is healing and able to walk short distances. During the first week after surgery, I had several questions and the staff at Sunset Point always answered them and put my mind at ease. In this case, I don't even think 5 stars are enough.
