After banning applications for screenshots that may infringe copyright with mails like :
"For example, images related to films are most likely protected by the various studios that produced and released them. It is reasonable to assume that these would not be made legally available in public domain or via Creative Commons as most studios are extremely protective of their intellectual property. The same could be said of images from various TV series."
That can be resumed as : Maybe you use copyrighted content, maybe not, but we ban as a preventive action as there's some big company that can cause us problem that we do not want to deal with, it's easier to remove indie dev income than properly addressing this issue.
And now comes the not so fun story of one my friend that wrote a quite good application : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spocky.galaxsimunlock
Recently he discovered that someone have taken his APK, changed background color and title and republished at an higher price.
As a normal action, he contacted Google with all the necessary proofs that this was his application just repackaged (with decompiled code comparison and everything needed to prove his rights on the code).
And then comes the Google answer :
"At this time, Google has decided not to take action. We encourage you to resolve any disputes directly with the individual who posted the content.
If you cannot reach an agreement and choose to pursue legal action against the individual who posted the content, and that action results in a judicial determination that the material is illegal or should be removed, please send us the court order seeking removal. In cases where the the individual who posted the content is anonymous, we may provide you with user information pursuant to a valid third party subpoena or other appropriate legal process against Google Inc."
That can be resumed as : You are a small indie dev we do not care, go find a international lawyer and spend tons of money to try to get this solved but do not bother us with your problems.
This is quite contradictory with previous case when they do preventive bans.
I've read all Google policies and nowhere it's written that they will take 30% share of all your sales but that unless you are a big company you will not have the same level of support than others and are just here to feed them without anything to protect you.
#Google you need to choose a way of acting and keep to it, as right now this looks like double standards and discrimination and this is not good at all !
