If you also do facebook, please click on the link below and "like" the post that comes up to help me get Red Cross to notice it. The Red Cross has a history of discriminating against people with disabilities in their shelters and they've recently gotten caught turning away a service dog user. It's come to my attention that their materials regarding pets strongly suggest they will turn away all but service dogs as defined by the DOJ's regulations for the ADA. However, they are required by HUD to use a much wider definition from the Fair Housing Act and Rehabilitations Act regulations that includes emotional support animals that are not included under ADA. The post asks when they will update their training materials to instruct the shelter staff properly in what assistance animals must be allowed. Sharing of this post would also be appreciated. Thanks!
When will the Red Cross update their training materials so that disaster and homeless shelters' staff and volunteers understand that they must allow "assistance animals" used by people with disabilities as required by HUD regulations for the Fair Housing Act and the Rehabilitiation Act and not ...
