Sometimes having a media room or newsroom on your website is the determining factor that lands you that interview or feature story. It’s your job to create attractive, informative, and useful materials that media can easily find on your website when they decide to do a story or segment with you.

This means removing all obstacles to their finding what they need.

Whatever and however you celebrate the season, we are moving into that time of year during which the trees leaf out, the early spring flowers bloom, baby chicks are born, and temperatures continue to rise as the days grow longer and longer. Except, of course, for my friends in Australia, New Zealand and other places south of the equator. For them, it is the opposite, so enjoy those nice, warm, tasty soups and warm bread.

At least once a week I learn of some new scam aimed directly at authors and it just hurts my heart. Never has it been so challenging to know who you can trust when it comes to marketing and publicizing your book.

I feel for you.

I, too, am challenged by this frequently because sometimes those targets happen to be my clients, and I am very protective of them. Authors have a target on their backs, particularly the ones who are new to the game and it’s their “first rodeo,” as they say.

It really is about time to change the definition of what a publicist is, because I have to tell you in the last 20 years the work I do on a daily basis has changed dramatically.

It’s very common for new authors to think, “Ok, I’ve written the book. Now I’ll hire a publicist and he or she will get the book out there and get it the attention it deserves. If it doesn’t get as much play as I think it should, well, that publicist just didn’t know what he or she was doing.

Hmmmm….

One way to keep your book and message timely is to find a way to become newsworthy. You can do that in a number of ways, and a good place to being is with the calendar.

It’s now the month of March, and time to look at Chase’s Calendar of Events. Chase’s is an event-listing book and is the ultimate go-to guide for special days, weeks and months.

As we all know, March is the month of green-- St. Patrick’s Day. Do you have a way to make your book
