Join Sharon Salzberg, with Tsoknyi Rinpoche and me for The Great Tributaries Retreat at Upaya: http://www.upaya.org/programs/event.php?id=1061

One day as my teacher, John Friend, was demonstrating a pose, he made an awkward-looking movement, then rebalanced. Coming out of it he asked, "What just happened?" One by one, my classmates offered a Sanskrit name for that extra little twist. Finally, John turned to me and repeated his question, "What just happened?" I replied, "To be honest, I think you fell." "You're right," he said. "I fell. Then I started over. That's good yoga. . ."

By prizing heartfulness above faultlessness, we may reap more from our effort because we're more likely to be changed by it. We learn and grow and are transformed not so much by what we do but by why and how we do it. -- Sharon Salzberg, "The Power of Intention,

My book "Being with Dying" one of six favorite books of Arianna Huffington. Also check out her book: Thrive. Amazing robust book that captures what counts in living and dying: http://theweek.com/article/index/259693/arianna-huffingtons-6-favorite-books-for-self-reflection

The Great Tributaries Retreat
Exploring Compassion, Wisdom and Emptiness in the Three Buddhist Schools with Joan Halifax, Sharon Salzberg and Tsoknyi Rinpoche

This unique retreat brings together three cherished teachers of the three schools of Buddhism in a radical exploration of compassion, wisdom and emptiness through direct teachings and practice. Sharon Salzberg opens the way of choiceless awareness and lovingkindness, Roshi Joan explores shikantaza and compassion, and Tsoknyi Rinpoche lays the foundations for Dzogchen and essence mind/heart as a path to liberation. - See more at: http://www.upaya.org/programs/event.php?id=1061#sthash.xVxGw6cm.dpuf

This bipolar with copd does not know if she is coming or going. So she just sits in place and heeds the silence! And in the silence she hears death calling, but her loved ones refuse to release her! Thanks Roshi Joan for broadening peoples views, via your own personal story, which in hearing, always moves me!
