Bar Raval is a busy newish Spanish pinxtos/tapas bar in the heart of Little Italy, Toronto.  Most notable is the inviting Catalan styled decor that makes one feel warm and comfortable in a standing room only interior.
Much like the social bar culture of northern Spain, the atmosphere is permeated with a festive social crowd in their 20's - 40's intent on catching up while both eating and drinking.  We went on a busy Friday night after 8pm and the wait was about 55 minutes to get in (we spent the wait time elsewhere).  See what we ate...
“@bar_raval - what we liked best was the: "A La Parilla Octopus" (not shown cuz we ate em), "Anchoas', and "Tomato Bread”. Good #music, cool #drinks, and…”

Listen and watch. Come and learn about #BOTOX, #fillers, and #cosmetic #surgery for the face. Dr. Jugenburg will be speaking and one lucky volunteer will be chosen for a botox/filler treatment. #Toronto

At an #ANTM party last year (2014) these looks came to make a statement. I think I've seen enough of #Tyra, and her band of merry minstrels. This show had its time, it was pioneering, and should now die an official death.

Went to America Restaurant in the Trump Hotel Toronto on Dec 22 2014, and sat at the bar. The $15 cocktails were tasty, but the pink lighting did nothing for the food which was lackluster and unimaginative. Seriously, the $55 steak came with a unrecognizable stuffed tomato, and the frites were extra (which I thought were ordered but never arrived). We had to take pictures with a flash to see what were were actually eating. As well the green pasta, shrimp, and squid dish was uninspiring. Go for the cocktails, but stay away from this seriously food-failing spot. The blue lighting in the dining room was no better for viewing what you were actually putting in your mouth either.

I loathe this Metro. Their house packaged meats are always spoiled. You can't smell it in the store, but when you get it home the chicken or beef always smells diseased. I wish they would leave Liberty Village and another grocer comes in and takes their place. My latest experience on Dec 23 at around midnight is this: Went to the Metro store at 12:15am to do some last minute grocery shopping. I got about four items, and went to the checkout where there was an employee named "Daniel". He rang up my totals and I asked him if they still did cashback. He asked how much and I said a hundred dollars. He asked for my Air Miles card, and I gave it to him, he asked if I needed bags and I said yes. I then paid by debt card, and left. I drove about 10 city blocks to my home and then proceeded to pay the babysitter with the $100 and realized I didn't receive it. I also did not sign for the money. I got back into my car and drove back to the Metro. I told "Georgina" what happened and she paged overhead for Daniel who was already conveniently gone from the store (even though she said he usually hangs around after his shift). I asked to speak to the manager, and she said I would have to come back in the morning. I asked when, and she said the manager does not come in early so she doesn't know when I should come in. Basically I don't have my money and I don't know when I'll be getting it because it will require some effort to back track the longer this is not sorted out. So I have to take time off to go in and sort this all out before the holidays, all because I was not diligent enough and the employee Daniel didn't do the job he was paid to do.

The City of Toronto has ordered the Shangri-La hotel and condo building to take immediate action to prevent injuries from falling glass. The city issued the “order to remedy unsafe building” to the developer of the 65-floor Shangri-La tower on Aug. 5, demanding they install overhead falling-glass protection on the sidewalks around the downtown property. The city of Toronto has ordered the developer, Westbank Corp., to prevent the building’s condo owners and hotel guests from using their tempered-glass balconies until they can be wrapped in a protective netting to prevent them from falling. The order comes after a pane of patio glass shattered and fell from the 51st floor of the luxury hotel and condo tower on July 17 2014. THIS IS THE 5th INCIDENT OF FALLING GLASS SINCE THE HOTEL WENT UP in 2011.

I've been going to Ali's for their roti for the past 15 years or more. Their chicken and goat roti are very tasty. They offer enough flavour and sauce, as well as a great house-made hot sauce. However, when I recently tried the oxtail soup, I found it completely unpalatable. The little pieces of oxtail were gristly, the meat was chewy, and just plain old tasting. The broth was "off" probably from the old pieces of meat. Also, the soup lacked the body, substance, and ingredients of a typical Caribbean soup. Instead, it was strangely overrun with an abundance of potatoes, celery, and carrots. Caribbean soup must have dumplings, cassava, edo, sweet potato, yam, and/or green plantain in it. Needless to say, I am remiss to try anything else at Ali's ever again!

The food is not bad if you sre starving after you've partied all night. It is mediocre if you come here sober. At anytime, day or night you are liable to get stabbed or shot by ghetto trash, or other low life forms who think they have gone out to a fine dining establishment. If you must hang with the low-life's there are better places to do it.
