Hi Jin,

How have you been keeping? What have you been up to?

I am still at SMS. Currently at the Office of Finance and Service NSW.

I must say I am impressed with your photographs. My son (12 years old) has taken an interest in photography and wants to buy an entry level DSLR camera. Do you have any hints?

Regards,

Glyn

Always knew octopuses were smart, but this one's a genius!  Mimics other animals to evade predators.
Thaumoctopus mimicus, better known at the Indonesian Mimic Octopus, is one of the best masters of disguise in the entire animal kingdom. There are many organisms that have evolved to look like a predator in order to be protected by association, but they are all pretty much confined to looking like just one thing.

This is a little disturbing...

BREAKING: NSA intercepts millions of web images every day for facial recognition.

The National Security Agency is harvesting millions of digital pictures from the Internet to feed into sophisticated facial recognition programs. The information is the latest to be revealed from the Edward Snowden trove of leaked NSA documents.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/01/us/nsa-collecting-millions-of-faces-from-web-images.html
The spy agency’s reliance on facial recognition technology has grown as the agency has used new software to exploit images in emails, text messages, social media, videoconferences and other communications.

Amazing advance in science that looks set to cure genetic diseases.

An incredible advance for science. Amazing.
A genetic disease has been cured in living, adult animals for the first time using a revolutionary genome-editing technique that can make the smallest changes to the vast database of the DNA molecule with pinpoint accuracy.

There is still construction in the middle - they're building a new restaurant and indoor viewing areas. Walked up to the second level and yeah, the tower is massive!

The sale of Motorola Mobility surprised me at first given Google's investment of effort in developing Motorola's phones, but upon reflection it makes perfect sense - Google is a services company at heart and Android is a channel for those services, not a means to make hardware sales. It also retains the patent portfolio to protect Android licencees and has one stronger partner (rather than a weaker one and a bankrupt one had the acquisition not occurred).

Standby for 50,000 blogs on "What Lenovo's purchase means for the future of Motorola." Here's the truth:

We simply don't know. Google says Lenovo "intends to keep Motorola’s distinct brand identity, just as they did when they acquired ThinkPad from IBM in 2005" -- and Lenovo says it intends to keep the company headquartered in the Chicago area -- but beyond that, anything you read right now is almost certainly little more than speculation.

Maybe the current Moto strategy will stay in place and we'll keep seeing impressive phones with near-stock software and speedy upgrades. Or maybe things will be radically different by this time next year. We just don't know.

One thing we can say for sure: It's far too soon to jump to conclusions about what Motorola and its products will or won't become as a result of this change. It's a bit of a shock, for sure, but let's all put away the pitchforks and wait to see how things play out.

Great bento boxes with great variety and decently-sized servings - my favourite is the salmon one. A bento + a drink will probably be low to mid $20's. Limited seating and pretty popular at lunchtime.
