Sun Rays in Antelope Canyon

I was really looking forward to finding a unique composition at this location and was delighted when I saw these three rays of light. It seemed like the perfect scene for a vertical panorama :D

In 3 weeks I will be giving up my life on the road. I've been away from the UK for seven years. And in today's post, I'm honest about my experiences travelling and why I'm ready to re-join society, But it has been, overall a wonderful experience. Anyway, you can read more of my ramblings in today's blog post. And as always, you can see the before/after comparison on my blog for this image, and the post-processing involved: http://www.throughstrangelenses.com/2016/07/19/why-im-giving-up-life-on-the-road/

The shapes and colors already make this shot a winner, but those light beams take it way over the top.

+Stephen Morley You're right. 2015.5 was a big surprise. In which case, we'll aim to get 2.0 out by September time, as long as testing goes well. Did you upgrade to 2015.5? and if so, was Raya Pro already in the new update, or did you need to re-install? Thanks

Dragon Eggs - Moeraki Close Up

Sometimes it's nice to get close to those awesome textures, even if means you'll be soaked from head to toe while doing so :)

Moon River - Mount Cook & Hooker Valley
A nice, calm evening in Hooker Valley, where I was sitting on a rock, feet dangling in the water, not in a hurry to go anywhere or do anything. You feel like you're a million miles from civilization here - I was quite happy just to sit there and enjoy the quiet :)

Nice!! Hi I have a question. Did you do bracketing for this photo? If so, how to properly do that? I understand the basic principle, but when I want to control shutter speed I'm confused. Normally, I would vary the shutter speed to get multiple exposures. With this type of photography, if I vary the shutter speed, the water won't be the same; also, if I vary the aperture, the DOF won't be the same. Can you help explaining a little further for me on this?
Thanks!!

Lucky Timing - Milky Way over Nugget Point

I planned this image about 6 months ago, and 45 minutes before the galactic centre was due to be over the lighthouse, the sky was thick with clouds. I didn't think I'd get the shot. 40 minutes later, the sky was clear in all the right places - I couldn't believe my luck :)

Sunrise at Nugget Point
This was a little bit of a dodgy climb up the side of a cliff - nothing too dangerous. But once you're up there the view is amazing, and you get to hear the seals below playing around :)

White Pockets, Arizona

We spent the day and night in the spectacular area of White Pockets in northern Arizona. This place feels extremely remote. Our only company was a rattle snake who made its way into our camp, and the coyotes who yapped throughout the night. The whole place seemed otherworldly :)

Frequency separation is a really popular tool for portrait photographers. But did you know we can also the power of this techniques to clean up our landscape and cityscape photos?

I've created a video tutorial, showing how useful this tool can be, and also a free action for you to download and use in Photoshop. I hope you enjoy the tutorial.

Frequency separation is an immensely useful tool in Photoshop, which portrait photographs have been enjoying for a long time. But we can also use frequency separation to drastically clean up our images, giving our photos a beautiful finishing touch. In this video I show you how to even out a sky with lens flare and …

Pink Sunrise over Glenorchy

I had a big smile on my face as I walked to the jetty at sunrise on the morning I shot this. I could already see that the reflection was crisp, the sky would be awesome, and to top it off, the water had a nice layer of mist floating across the top - what more could a photographer ask for?! :)

Epic Sunset Over Milford Sound

I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time here. There was heavy rain and wind all day. But just 15 minutes at sunset, the rain stopped, the wind calmed down, and the clouds parted just enough for a lovely beam of light to shoot down through the sound. I couldn't believe my luck.
