Pro Tip: Increase Lens Blur Quality to High

The quality of the tilt shift Lens Blur photos from the new Google Camera app is seriously impressive. But by default, the camera prioritizes speed of processing over image quality. Visit the app settings to increase the quality for your tilt shift Lens Blur photos!

In light of the recent firing of Martin O'Donnell from Bungie (, I think this song is a perfectly fitting soundtrack for the day. One of his best...

Marty, I hope that your future is as bright as your talent.

Thus why everything was not awesome.

I have several favorite video game soundtracks and several favorite video game composers, but I think Marty has been the only one to consistently knock it out of the park.

Personally, the news is still so shocking, and the information so sparse, that I have yet to figure out how I actually feel about this...

Also: A fine pick. ODST is easily his crowning achievement.

My favorite part of the new Google Camera App

A reminder to all those silly knights that still record vertical videos! This little icon spins reminding the user to turn their phone to the correct orientation, but it does not prevent you from recording the video. Just a constant reminder, like those "dummy lights" in manual transmission cars that remind you to shift gears. :D

If you haven't installed the app yet, what are you waiting for?!?

I am a tech enthusiast with a big, grunty thirst for video games.
I'm passionate about life and enjoying the time that I have on this pale blue dot of a planet. I love my family above all else. I am also a die-hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan, and I love spending time in the Carolina sunshine as often as possible. Sometimes I travel the world, and sometimes I blog about it. I'm sporadic at best when it comes to content creation, but I'm very active when it comes to interacting with content that other people have shared and that I find engaging.

If you'd like to engage with me or share topical posts, here are some suggestions for topical circles that you may want to place me in to get you started:

  • Android (OS and phones)
  • Chrome/ChromeOS/Chromium
  • Video Games
  • Anything Bungie related

  • And of course, Google+ !
Please don't hesitate to send me a message (either from my profile or just plussing me into a conversation that you think I'll find relevant to my interests). I'm almost always attached to a device that will let me interact with you, but if I don't respond quickly it's probably because I'm watching a Pens game.

I hope that we can work together to make Google+ a useful platform for your own needs, and I'd be pleased as punch to help make your stay here better in any way possible!

The Tavern

The Tavern hasn't shared anything on this page with you.

King's Place is *unbelievably* good. This small, and unassuming little bar is on the side of the road and sandwiched between corn fields and a local winery. I drove 50 minutes from Rochester, MN and the views along Highway 20 were absolutely stunning. I never thought fields of endless corn rows could take my breath away, but I was so very wrong. Immediately upon arrival, it was apparent that the service was exemplary. Every member of the staff that I had the pleasure of interacting with was kind and helpful in every way possible. We sat at the bar and were immediately served with zero wait time. The bartender was friendly and outgoing, and never left our glasses empty. The selection of burgers on the menu is simply overwhelming, and the best advice that was given to us was "just pick the first one that looks good and then stop searching" -- otherwise you'll just have too many "good choices" in your head to remember. The burgers were beyond delicious, and the seasoned waffle fries were crispy and flavorful. It was the perfect meal, and the most mind-blowing part was how _cheap_ everything was. The burgers were all around $5, and I would have gladly paid double that for the quality of the meal. I will gladly make the 50 minute drive from Rochester on a daily basis to continue to eat at this incredible place. *TL;DR: Bravo. 10/10. Would eat again.*

I had a great experience with Mechanical Man Inc today when they came to diagnose a problem with our TRANE Heat pump system. The technician Kim and the service coordinator Donna were both very helpful in getting our problem resolved. They did not try to "upsell" or mislead us, and Kim was very open and upfront with the required service. He explained everything that he encountered and taught me a few things about our heating/cooling system that I was unaware of. I think the price for the diagnostic and parts replacement was very reasonable, and the service fee even included a cleaning of the unit, which I found refreshing. I will definitely be recommending Mechanical Man to my neighbors and would not hesitate to have them come back for any future maintenance/service on our heating/cooling system.

I've been to this particular Mellow Mushroom location many times because of its vicinity to the Bull ball park, and it's my favorite pizza place in the area. Make sure you check the Bulls schedule before you go though, because it gets absolutely packed with people on game nights (sometimes, it's just worth the wait). It's a great restaurant to split a pizza and share some good beers, or to just go for a quick lunch to enjoy their delicious oven baked hoagies. I've also been very impressed with their selection of appetizers, but the main attraction here is definitely the pizzas. They have some crazy combinations of toppings, but I'd have to recommend the house special. It's like a meat lover's pizza, but turned up to 11. You won't be disappointed with this pie and a few ice cold brews.

The Tavern has gone through a number of drastic changes in the past year, and it's nothing like what it was when it first opened in this new location on Markham Street. The entire staff has been turned over, and it's all for the better. They've also opened a fully-operational kitchen and overhauled their menu with new cooks, which has been a huge success IMO. The new food selection at the Tavern is excellent. I can't recommend enough that you stop in on your lunch break for one of their hand-stuffed burgers and house made chips. You also can't go wrong with the Tavern Chicken Pita or the Wings, but whatever you do *don't miss the pickle chips*! Easily the best pickle chips that I've EVER had, and trust me when I say that I've been searching high-and-low for a better version, which has been an insurmountable task. The beer selection is also incredible. They have not only your standard domestic selection on tap or in the bottle/can, but they also have a huge and constantly evolving selection of local and craft beers. Their daily specials are usually very good, and the newest bartending staff is friendly and very attentive. Another thing that I love about the Tavern is their selection of things to do. They regularly have bands come in to play on their big stage, but the staples of the bar are the pool tables, arcade games and the dart boards. You can even join the dart league that plays there weekly if you're feeling adventurous. I've always left the Tavern happy, and it's the only bar in Durham that I visit regularly. The last reviews (from years ago) do not do this place justice, and I highly recommend that you stop in and judge for yourself what the "New" Tavern is like. (Check out the photos above to see for yourself how much it's changed from what was mentioned in those old reviews). Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it's a great place to catch any sporting event. The owners do get the NFL package, and the place is always packed for college basketball games (though I'm usually the guy sitting in the corner watching hockey by myself). They have a good selection of TVs, and if it's a really special event, you can even get your game put up on the giant projector in the room with the stage.

If the 1201 Kitchen were located in any other city besides Erie, it would be a mediocre-at-best restaurant judged solely on the food. I would say that the wine selection and cocktail variety is spectacular, but unfortunately the food was not quire up to par. My wife and I came to 1201 during the week after Christmas for an early dinner. We had no reservations, and thus were forced to sit at the bar even though the restaurant was entirely empty. Our server (the bartender) was dressed haphazardly in a zip-up hoodie and jeans, and did not make any attempt at appeasing us whatsoever. For an empty restaurant, our food took a peculiar amount of time to cook, even though we only ordered a soup, a salad appetizer and one entree. While the roasted garlic soup and arugula salad were divine, the entree was slightly unimpressive. It was the pork belly, and while impressive in presentation, underwhelmed in taste. It definitely could have used a bit less salt, and more spiciness (it was advertised as being spicy, but I tasted no such heat - even in the drops of sauce on the plate). I had also ordered a single sushi roll, which was room-temperature, and incredibly bland. While I appreciated the quick delivery of sushi from the prep station behind the bar, I've never once had room-temperature fish in my sushi, and it had absolutely no taste. This restaurant definitely benefits from its location in Erie, PA as there is literally nothing else in its class in the city. That being said, if this restaurant were located in any major metropolitan area, it would be quickly over-looked for better options.

Pretty good, and very authentic Mexican food. Extremely over-priced. The service is excellent, but you'll almost always want a reservation unless you're okay with fighting for elbow space at the bar.
