After yesterday's slight scare story (https://plus.google.com/+JimWall/posts/MegxAxkMBQj) , today +BBC News have posted an article explaining what ERTMS is. Although what I've always known as ERTMS they, call ETCS.

My only grumble is that they only mention the Cambrian line which in my mind runs between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth and not the Cambrian Coast Line which runs from Dovey Junction to Pwllheli (the bit I normally travel on) which was/still is part of the test track for ERTMS/ETCS.

Have to admit I did chuckle at:

"And there are some who think the work can be completed nationwide without causing chaos. Joe Little, of rail project management firm CPC, believes that although ETCS will be the biggest change to the infrastructure since the Victorian pioneers, it can be achieved with minimum disruption. "Traditionally you'd shut the railway down whereas now the new digital system can be overlaid on top of the old mechanical system so you can test it thoroughly before making the final switch.""

Although perhaps by us having all the problems in the first few months of testing on the Cambrian and Cambrian Coast Lines, it means it'll be less problematic for the rest of the UK rail network when it comes to roll out.
A new digital rail signalling system in the UK could be targeted by hackers, an expert has warned - but just what is behind this radical change to signalling.

Just when I seem to have dealt with the rooks and crows breaking the bird feeders and scaring off the garden birds, another problem appears in the last couple of days in the form of a cat I've been told is called Lemon.

It (the person who identified the cat didn't say whether it was male or female) seems to be considering the hedge with all the garden birds living in it and feeders hanging on it as a buffet by the looks of it, although shrews have been seen running out from under the hedge which might explain why Lemon is looking at the bottom of the hedge in the pic.

Lemon even had the cheek to sit on the outside window ledge last night and seemed to be spending half it's time looking at the birds and the other half watching me watching the tv.

Apparently Lemon has a very nice home further along in the village so, it's not a stray in need of a new home.

Might be a crazy thought but, if Clarkson's mate, Andy Wilman has left Top Gear it might be an indication that Clarkson has found the possibility of some other show somewhere else.
Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman has quit the BBC show in the wake of Jeremy Clarkson's departure, the BBC has confirmed.

Not sure how this ended up in the Business section of the +BBC News website but, it's an interesting story.

As the report says, it sounds like something from a feel good film but, it seems to have had a remarkable effect.

Now there's something you don't see everyday.

I like the fact that there's 11 foot of water and yet the firemen act completely normal as though it's nothing really

Long story short, 80+mile round trip by car (even more time and distance if I tried to do it by public transport) to get to a cinema showing the new Avengers film so, I'm waiting for it to come out on Bluray.

Apparently it could have been as long as 3 hours but, it was cut down for the cinema release but, it might be possible to see the 3 hour version when it comes out on Bluray and DVD according to this article.
Get the first details on the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of one of the biggest movies of the year.

A nice fun story for anybody travelling on the Cambrian Coast Line this morning (not).

The signalling system they are talking about is ERTMS which has been trialled over the last few years on the Cambrian Coast Line (bit of railway track i normally trundle along when travelling in train shaped things).

As far as I know it hasn't been hacked and if it had there's been no train crashes.
A government adviser warns that a new hi-tech rail signalling system could be hacked by terrorists to cause train crashes.

2 General Election thoughts/observations after watching things on the TV tonight:

1. According to a UKIP candidate in south west Wales, immigration is a big thing with people in south west Wales.

He seems to have missed the fact that the majority of immigration into Wales is from a little country next door called England and not in fact from other countries.

2. Some English people are losing their sh*t over the fact that a non England based political party (SNP, Plaid Cymru or one of the Northern Ireland parties) might have some form of power in a coalition.

Yet the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish have always had England based political parties governing them. So, here's a crazy thought but, how about a change.
