Harvesting ambient energy (radio waves, light, heat) is going to be a key to the "internet of things".  We just keep getting closer...

Engineers have printed an ant-sized radio onto a silicon chip that costs pennies to make and draws power from the information it receives.  This brings to life the ubiquitous smart dust potential that author Vernor Vinge prognosticated in fiction, more than a decade ago.  http://www.wired.com/2014/09/ant-size-radio/
A joint team of engineers from UC Berkeley and Stanford University have printed an ant-sized radio onto a silicon chip that harvests energy from the signals it receives.

It's time to start choosing our means of government through seasteading and microtopias.  I wrote an article on about this topic 12 years ago, and it is getting some traction now. Really nice to see this - the goal here is to evolve our forms of voluntary self-governance through small-scale experimentation on autonomous floating communities in international waters.  This concept has been around for a while, and is getting some funding through Silicon Valley (Peter Thiel) and the Seasteading Institute.

A really beautiful short film about the future of manned space exploration - all the locations  depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in our Solar System, from real photos and map data where available.   Run it in HD, and put on the headphones... narration by Carl Sagan is a big plus, too!
Make sure to view in full screen, and turn up the volume on your best set of speakers or headphones.

Energy storage and wireless power transfer are the two big puzzles that we need to solve to make robotics and electric vehicles more useable.  We're still running on 30-year old lithium-ion technology - time to move on, guys!

Street-art can go highbrow (q.v. Banksy), but sometimes it is just begging for attention.  I'd expect way more of this in "augmented" reality overlays... still a few years out.
INSA is a product designer and graffiti artist who has created a series of gifs that reveal what our world will look like when walls can be animated just like images online. Here are some of his craziest gif creations.http://io9.com/these-buildings-have-animated-screens-instead-of-walls-1561233453

It's been a while since I've looked at investing in frontier markets.  You usually don't hear about these things until AFTER they have made a big move...
