On the Need for Plot Points. More than simply a framework, they function as context for character. #screenwriting http://narrativefirst.com/articles/on-the-need-for-plot-points
On the Need for Plot Points. Some cry contrivance. Others lament convention. And even more bemoan the influence of the ideologue. Writers will do anything, it seems, to avoid understanding what it is they are really doing. As my story consultancy grows, I begin to witness patterns in behavior.

Oh. I just want to see him back in action. Some facts I found is him doing some live-action movies, but those were announced like 6 to 10 years ago. My point is that I wish he can do some more stuff today. All he did is 3 movies and 1 TV show.

The 3rd and final chapter of my Practical Dramatica series. Put story theory to work on improving your #screenwriting
Expanding the Playground. Dramatica functions like a time machine. Speeding you past months of rewrites and dead-end alleys, the theory sheds light on bad story choices while it offers up potentially better ones. Unfortunately, learning how to use it slows time down to a crawl.

New Dramatica workshop exercises for figuring out your Main Character! #screenwriting
The Main Character Playground. Many writers rally against story theory. How can a construct of chains possibly compete with the intuition of the artist? Story gurus and theoreticians can pontificate all they want, but their uncertified claims lie dormant. The proof, it would seem, ...

On Dramatica's Extraordinary Sense of Perception. Dramatica can read your mind. Sure, it can help you define the conflict in your story, silo off motivations for your characters or even prevent your story as a whole from becoming an unintelligible mess like Pixar's Brave, but the real magic ...

No, not at all. If you want some more detail, that first draft received a very strong consider - proof that not all first drafts have to be garbage, as long as you know what you're doing and trying to achieve.

If you want some quotes from that coverage, let me know. It start with "Wow!", lol.

Hello all,

In the ongoing effort to improve the conversation surrounding Dramatica we now have a new Discussion Board over on the central site. Running on the relatively new Discourse platform, this "forum for the 21st century" comes with some key features that should make engaging and learning about Dramatica more enjoyable and more effective.

There is a bit of a learning curve (as with all things Dramatica!) but the features are worth it. Better categorization, more room to write, Markdown support, reply directly to comments, branch threads to new conversations, full list of all thinks in a thread at the top of every post, and efficient search capabilities make this a natural progression for the theory.

Feel free to ask questions there or here, wherever you feel more comfortable. However with Google's recent snub of Google+ at their own Dev Conference, you might find more permanence over on the main site. Regardless of what you choose, hopefully you'll find what you need to help you get back to writing.

Have fun! (you can find it at http://discuss.dramatica.com)

Interested in a practical look at Dramatica #screenwriting theory in action? Here's my latest article covering the Crucial Element of any story. Hopefully the first (really the second or third) of a series showing how Dramatica works in practice (rather than just theory).
The Crucial Element of Screenwriting in Action. When does story theory overcomplicate the writing process? The drive to understand all that is Dramatica sometimes works against Authors. In a case where too much knowledge can be a bad thing, suppressing the urge to overthink may prove beneficial.

Dramatica does. In each of these stories the Main Character prefers to solve problems internally. Dramatica refers to this concept of story structure as the Main Character Approach. Every Main Character has a preferred method for resolving the problems they face. A Do-er will first change the ...

A process for delivering meaning. Story exists as a carrier wave for an Author’s intent. Many want to say much, but much gets lost in the many ways of sending that message. Writers who comprehend the machine can convey their purpose with greater accuracy.

Protagonists fight for the central Goal of a story. Antagonists prevent it. Amidst this epic struggle a relationship develops between two principal characters, a relationship that reflects and balances out the more obvious fight between good guy and bad guy. To maintain this parity between big picture and bonding, Authors may find the idea of a Relationship Story Goal helpful.
