I eventually said the following on Twitter, and figured that would be the end of it for me: I know awards have always had an element of popularity contest to them, and that any system can be played. (1/5) Likewise, there have always ...

Meerkats, texts from Batman, eclipse pics...
This has been quite the week! Thanks for the birthday wishes, the support and encouragement on the release of Invisible, and for just generally being awesome... Meerkats "helping" a nature photographer. (Link from Laura Anne Gilman) Cats and boxes. Best Batman-related texts from Texts From Superheroes. Photos of this week's lunar eclipse.

As of today, Invisible is officially a thing! In addition to the guest blog posts featured on the blog, the e-book anthology includes bonus material from Alex Dally MacFarlane, Gabriel Cuellar, Nonny Blackthorne, and Ithiliana.

Hail Friday! 26 Majestic Dogs. (Spoiler: dogs in images may be somewhat less majestic than advertised.) Action Bill: Bill Shatner vs. Bill Shakespeare, in LEGO stop-motion animation. Photos of dogs in mid-headshake. Googly eyes on books. (Must try this on some of my books...)

I'm told the publisher will be doing an ebook version as well. She didn't know when that version would be up for pre-order, though.

Will Shetterly wrote a blog post asking if I had addressed "RAINN's refutation of 'rape culture'" yet. I'm writing this less to respond to Shetterly and more because I think there's some good conversation to be had around RAINN's recommendations. But I should warn folks that by invoking his name and linking to his blog ...

A review of +Mary Robinette Kowal's Shades of Milk and Honey, in which I admit to judging a book by its cover, and thoroughly regretting it.

It's a lovely book--the whole series is wonderful--and I'm glad you finally got to read it.

Last Thursday, I went in to get set up for a five-day run with a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). Quick overview - with type one diabetes, the pancreas up and quits producing insulin, because it's a LAZY SLACKER! Therefore, I take insulin via an insulin pump, which delivers a baseline dose throughout the day, and allows ...

And when you gaze long into Friday, Friday also gazes into you. Cat gifs that made me giggle. (Link from Elizabeth Bear) Big dogs and tiny kittens. (Also from Elizabeth Bear) Superman, written well. "Who did this to you?" (Linked from Diane Duane) Slate's collection of the best 2013 photos of space.

Thanks for that Superman link. Made my month after reading too many bad books.

Fantasy author and (according to my kids) general goofball.
Introduction
Jim C. Hines' latest book is CODEX BORN, the second in his modern-day fantasy series about a magic-wielding librarian, a dryad, a secret society founded by Johannes Gutenberg, a flaming spider, and an enchanted convertible. He's also the author of the PRINCESS series of fairy tale retellings as well as the humorous GOBLIN QUEST trilogy.

He made his first professional fiction sale in 1998 with "Blade of the Bunny," an award-winning story that appeared in Writers of the Future XV. His short fiction has since appeared in more than 40 magazines and anthologies, including Realms of Fantasy, Turn the Other Chick, and Sword & Sorceress XXI.

Jim lives in Michigan with his wife and two children.
