Nearly three years ago I had to shut down my business that I poured my heart and soul into for eight years. That was the hardest day of my life and in many ways I have never fully recovered - but today was not that day! This year I set a goal to complete the @spartanrace#trifecta. Last week I, along with @ghunt6, @ericoleson76, and Todd Cockrell accomplished that goal by completing the Spartan Beast - 12 + BRUTAL miles with insane elevation gains and 25 obstacles. I started the race with nine friends but intentionally ran almost the entire race solo. It took every ounce of strength and will power that I could summon to tackle some of those hills and obstacles - but I did it. My time is nothing to brag about but I used every minute on the course reflecting over the past few years. There were three times that I let the tears flow. Yes, I cried and it felt great. This was not due to lack of strength or physical endurance but because I was overcome by extreme emotion. Emotions that I have never dealt with until now. I was physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted but I felt better at that moment than I have felt in a long, long time. I am free. To conclude this over-dramatized narrative of my day I will leave you with a quote from the starting line of the race: "The day may come when the courage of Sparta fails. Today will not be that day! Who am I? I am Spartan. Who am I? I AM FREAKING SPARTAN!!! Aroo, aroo, #AROO !"
