Hangouts  -

I have been trying to email those who have indicated they will be attending the GeneaGalas in August for NFHM but the messages aren't going out. Therefore I am sending the message to all in the GeniAus group. Here 'tis:

Thank you so much for indicating that you might join me for a GeneaGala Hangout for National Family History Month in August.

I am looking forward to the event which seems like months away but, as I have an eight week overseas trip between now and then, the time will surely fly.

If you are already able to commit to a time you can be online and a topic to chat about during the hangout that would assist with my planning. You can email me at jillballau@gmail.com. If August is too far away then please keep the date in your calendar and I will chase you on my return to Australia.

Please let your genimates know about the event.

Cheers, Jill

How NOT to look ugly on a webcam

Aside from the Enhanced Features  that Google added to Hangouts onAir, here are additional tips to pay attention to if you want to look great on camera.

Pay extra attention to your environment (background) and the fact that you need to be wired in.

Thanks +Jill Ball I really enjoyed this session despite the technology glitches. It is like show and tell where you can pinch some good ideas or think, my way is not so bad. I have issues from doing genealogy for 35+ years. The digital files easy to locate it is the boxes of physical files I need to deal with. Afew years back I organised most things into plastic crates by surnames (1 box per name) then manilla folder for families within. Digitally I have folders with surnames then sub sets within. However I keep certificates for ALL families in one folder, census in another, newspapers together. I picked up some good hints. I look forward to some spare time in a few months to get back into focussing on my research. Keep up the excellent work.

You are invited to join GeniAus for an #AFFHO  Congress 2015 after party.

Let's tell others what was great about Congress. If yoou didn't attend Congress join us to hear all about it.
Who was the standout speaker  for you?
What new resource did you hear about?
What did you learn that was new? Have you changed your practices as a result of learning something new at Congress? Has a brick wall tumbled down as a result?

Do you have any suggestions for Congress 2018?

We'll be on Air in around 45 mins. I will send out a link to join the panel 15 mins prior. Hoping that technology cooperates tonight.

You are invited to come along to this Hangout where we will discuss AFFHO Congress 2015, what it has to offer the family historian and how we can maximise our enjoyment of the event.

We might discuss:
* General Conference Goers hints
* Getting together with interest groups at Congress eg software users, geneabloggers, European researchers, vaious societies, GFF etc.
* Making Congress a memorable experience for Newbies
* Suggestions of Research Repositories to visit in Canberra
* Using the online Congress Interests Register...

and any other question you may have.

Very informative, thanks Jill & panel. It's my first Congress, so I'm very excited. I don't have any spare days either side to stay & research or sightsee, so I'll be flat-chat while I'm there. I've organised the UTAS dinner for the Sunday night, 6pm at Jamie's Italian, for those who want to come.
