Moonrise Over Papandayan Crater

Mount Papandayan is a complex stratovolcano, located in Garut Regency, to the southeast of the city of Bandung in West Java, Indonesia. It is about 15 km to the southwest of the town of Garut.
At the summit, there are four large craters which contain active fumarole fields. An eruption in 1772 caused the northeast flank to collapse producing a catastrophic debris avalanche that destroyed 40 villages and killed nearly 3,000 people. The eruption truncated the volcano into a broad shape with two peaks and a flat area 1.1 km wide with Alun-Alun crater in the middle, making the mountain appear as a twin volcano; one of the peaks is called Papandayan and the other Mount Puntang.
At only 2,665 meters above sea level, Mount Papapandayan is known among hikers as “the mountain for beginners”.  Yet there are very few mountains in Indonesia that are like Mt. Papandayan, cramming as it does into its breathtaking view a beautiful edelweiss meadow, a dead forest and a steaming sulfur crater.

ORA BEACH
Northwest Seram Island, Maluku, Indonesia

Hidden in the northwest of Seram Island in Maluku province is Ora Beach, with its sugary white sand beach and crystal-clear water surrounded by lush tropical forest. The sight was enough to wash away exhaustion resulting from the six hours trip to the island from the capital city Ambon. The beach, largely unknown — even among the province’s residents, is also home to rich coral reefs and marine life, making it a favorite destination for ecotravelers. (The Jakarta Post)

Ambon Afterglow
Ambon City, Maluku (Moluccas Islands), Indonesia

Maluku or The Moluccas or Moluccan Islands are located in the northeast region of the Indonesian archipelago, bordered by the Philippines to the north, Irian Jaya or West Papua to the east, and the Indonesian island of Sulawesi to the west. There are more than 20 large islands in the archipelago, the largest of which include Halmahera, Seram, and Buru, and the province is spread out over great distances of ocean. The population of the entire Moluccas is approximately 2 million, with a large concentration of people in Ambon, capital of the southern region. (Ambon refers also to the island on which the city is located.) Ambon was colonized by Portugal in 1526. The Portuguese were driven out by the Dutch in 1609. Except for brief periods of British rule, the island remained under Dutch control until Indonesia's independence in 1945.
