Took the new 2014 Toyota Corolla on a week long test drive in the middle of a Boston winter. How'd this little car handle our tiny, icy streets? Pretty darn well. A great option for an urban lifestyle.

Today's topic is online shopping sites that have fun and funky gifts. One of my highlights, +UncommonGoods. Some great, unique stuff and a focus on green products and independent artists. I bet there are a lot of guys out there who don't know that they want these personalized whiskey barrels...

Debated a few different North End restaurants, wanted something that wouldn't be too packed or too small. Was won over by the simple menu and good reviews. Walking around I felt good about my choice. A spacious dining room by North End standards, you don't get squished. It was a slow afternoon, early for dinner, wine was prompt, service was good. With the bread comes a spread with olive oil, red pepper, garlic and white bean. A nice change from the usual oil. (Would have loved a bit of parmesan in it, though...) Started off with the arugula salad which was just a touch heavy on the dressing and had one rather large piece of goat cheese rather than crumbles, but the flavors were nice and the candied walnuts were delightful. I had the Linguine Amatriciana, a very simple sauce and done quite well. Friend had the risotto, nice with good simple flavors. Portion sizes were perfect. I don't like to get too caught up in the lines and the craziness of the North End so having a nice spot over on Salem with good food is great.

It's about time I reviewed this place. While spending my weekends in Cleveland Circle this has been my go-to spot. Great iced coffee, really friendly staff (owners are usually here), go for the breakfast sandwiches. I have been ordering the Special lately: egg, proscuitto, provelone, tomato. So good. Just a buck or so more than Dunkin for a sandwich and a coffee but so much better. And if you're looking for a spot to work/study with your laptop, this is great. Once I couldn't find a table at 10 am on a Sunday (they don't have that many tables) but it was more an issue of timing and one really big group taking up half the place. Sometimes it's a little loud but you probably brought your earphones anyway. But they have outlets all over the place, free wi-fi with password that has always worked, comfy chairs. I wish this place was right by my house in Rozzie. I'd be here all the time.

I've only had the pizza and pasta at Pleasant, but if it weren't for the kids I'm sure we'd go there a lot more often. Everything there is old school. The waitresses have probably been there for a few decades and service is meh, but they don't make places like this anymore and I don't think anything's changed there since I was born. Great to have a place like this in the neighborhood.

We came on a cold and snowy Sunday before the dinner rush with a kid and a baby. Sadly they don't serve slices after 4 pm unless you sit at the bar. But the small pizzas were a good size: enough for 2 hungry people. We got 2 smalls, including one pepperoni to appease the 3 year old. Wait staff was good. They even brought a small slice for our son while we waited for our food and the guys making dough smiled at us as we watched them throw the dough in the air. Not as much seating inside as you would think and I probably wouldn't dare go when busy. Pepperoni pizza was good, pepperonis had great flavor, good thickness. We also had the Spicy Pulled Pork, Scallion and Herb pizza, which I loved. The pork was definitely spicy and I loved the scallion and herb so much I would eat a whole pizza just with that. Next time we'll be sure to come before 4 for slices.

Interesting food that's seriously delicious. I want to go back here all the time. Great cocktails, too. Brunch is fantastic.

A tiny store but with good selection. My husband was on the hunt for some board games and this was the only place in town that had more than one of the ones he wanted. Also selection of limited editions and a good sized kid section in back. Lots of puzzles, too. When we were there staff was mostly chatting amongst themselves and no one approached us, but I did see them help a couple other people.

I shop at CVS often because of their ExtraBucks program. Before I lived nearby this particular location, I often drove here because it's one of the more spacious and nicer ones around with a good sized parking lot. A great selection compared to other CVS locations, clean and usually not very crowded. The pharmacy staff is good, though waiting for a prescription can be long. I wish they were a 24-hour pharmacy. The coupon kiosks rarely work. And they're often a cashier short, but they do have nice people at the registers
