Essay by Sally Kohn: I'm gay. I want my kid to be gay too
I live in the liberal bubble of Park Slope, Brooklyn, where no yuppie would ever admit to wanting their kid to be anything in particular, other than happy. But more often than not, we define happiness as some variation on our own lives, or at least the lives of our expectations. If we went to college, we want our kids to go to college. If we like sports, we want our kids to like sports. If we vote Democrat, of course we want our kids to vote Demo...

Scott Walker has a way of bringing out the worst in his enemies on the political left, via +Chicago Tribune commentary.
Imagine that I'm a political consultant. Please also imagine that I serve a client base of government employees. This week, my clients are hopping mad about cuts in their state's spending.

It's time for the government to butt out of marriage.
This month, two women grace the cover of Texas Monthly, "The National Magazine of Texas." Both are young and conservatively dressed, and have worried half-smiles. One is pregnant; the other holds a toddler, his face buried in her shoulder. Legos litter the ground beneath their feet. The headline: "Modern Family."

Wisconsin this week is expected to become the 25th right-to-work state. As more of Illinois' neighbors enact right-to-work laws, what is Gov. Bruce Rauner thinking? By +Chicago Tribune Editorial Board.
For more than six decades, talk of a right-to-work law — which backers say would make Illinois more competitive for jobs — was largely irrelevant here. Of the six border states eager to poach companies away from Illinois, only Iowa had a law that forbade making employment contingent on joining or paying dues to a union. Illinois wasn't at a big labor-law disadvantage to most of its neighbors.

Why don't more girls study math and science? Biased teachers may be to blame, via +Chicago Tribune commentary.
The U.S. has a pressing need to increase the number of well-educated graduates in science, technology, engineering and math, pretty much everyone agrees. Jeb Bush contends that we're not producing "anything approaching the numbers we need to sustain and grow our economy, much less to maintain our leadership in global technology." President Barack Obama says that "we've got a whole bunch of talent" being wasted because we're not getting enough gir...

If Illinois Democrats don't like Rauner's budget, they are more than welcome to make a counter. From the +Chicago Tribune Editorial Board.
Given the Fahrenheit follies outdoors, you may not have felt the hot breath from many legislators since Gov. Bruce Rauner proposed a budget for the deadbeat state of Illinois. We sensed that state Sen. Donne Trotter , D-Chicago, was peeved when he said the "slash-and-burn budget" positioned Rauner "as if he was an ISIS warrior fighting a battle, not against the state of Illinois but against the people of Illinois." Thanks for your constructive...
