General Bike Discussion  -

This is my brother's bike commute to work. There are so many bikes! I cringed a little when he rode over the trolley tracks, but he knows what he's doing.

I'm so jealous of his work's bike facilities. I bet they have a nice locker room too. Sigh.

Check out my dumb commute with a song I like.

Defend the indefensible  -

Here's a funny story. I was going up to do laundry this morning and found a neatly, probably store rolled, joint in the parking lot. I picked it up and put it in the dock cart, then proceeded to do laundry and forget all about it, leaving it behind in the cart. I wonder who found it.

I hope someone is having a good time with it. I probably wouldn't have smoked it anyway.

They seem to already be doing some banning. I suppose though that it's hard to keep people from signing up new accounts.

So fast, the UCI banned it forever.

Riding Safety  -

We've all seen similar, I'm sure.
A quick scroll through the internet highlights the need for much, much better planning and execution when it comes to bike infrastructure.

+Jessi Lucas We had one of those on a sidewalk, which curved and then the lines continued off of the curb onto the bike lane, but NO indication there was a 6" curb. I have no idea how many wipeouts there were, especially at night. Then they created a small ramp, which worked well, but they painted the sides in non-reflective darker red paint (or maybe that was the blood of those who wiped out?). Totally weird, but then again, this is Maple Ridge, land of the zombies.

+Phill Connell I've been feeling pretty old since my eldest son got taller than me. That was a while ago and he's now over 6' and 14 year's old. Dammit

Ride Reports/Mileage  -

More Cabal than wool on my Wooleaters coffee ride today. It is in the 80's though. I take the worst selfies.

Just a 22.5 mile jaunt up to Shoreline. We hit a coffee shop next to a methadone clinic, which led to interesting clientele. The shop itself was quite nice with very good, well made coffee. https://onecup.org/locations/

This is good... very good:

1. The far-off stare. Be sure to focus off into the distance, as if to say, MAN, I HAVE SEEN THINGS.

2. The square jaw. Riding a bike is serious bidness and if anyone tells you to lighten up, pimpslap them with your leather-gloved hand or just drop them like a bag of dirt.

3. The secret smile. That's a no-nonsense face, except there's juuuuuust a bit of a smile there. Is it because you're having fun? More likely, it's because you know when the pedals start turning, the hammer starts dropping.

If I can give you any advice, this image is missing the haunted eyes of a rider on the Edge of Bonk.

This came into the library today. I'm glad we're documenting the idiocy of the presidential election in the US.

Don't worry, it's in the adult section. Highly recommended read.

Cycling and the Law  -

I'm glad this doesn't happen to me very often. Usually there's no name calling or cat calling, just the revved engine and a close pass.
Leigh Goldenberg prides herself in following all the laws while riding her bike. The Passyunk Square resident calls herself a “typical law-abiding bicyclist” who sits at red lights and cautiously rolls through stop signs like any cyclist or driver in South Philly.

Oh man, there is a Pikachu near me. I'm not putting pants on to run around in the middle of the night looking for him! Nope. I'm not!

Now how will I sleep?

Introduction
I've been a teen services librarian since 2006, with forays into instruction and service learning coordination and a solid foundation in reference and tech help.

I have a son who's now adult and my boyfriend has three lovely daughters who live with us half time.

I ride a bike for transportation most of the time. We have one car in our household and it's mostly used to move kids. I ride for recreation as well.

We live on a Vagabond 47, which is a ketch (two masted) sailboat. Liveaboard life is grand. I am looking forward to retirement so that I can read my books in a warmer climate.

They always have interesting beer on tap, and the small amount of food they offer is excellent. I love to get their Hawaiian flatbread pizza and add jalapenos. The service has always been good too. I'm not a TV sports watching person, but they have 3 screens and show local, national and international games. They are not obnoxious though and you can still enjoy a conversation while they are on.

A pretty nice park with shady and sunny spots. There's a spray feature for hot days and a playground that will keep most kids happy. The zip line is not at this location, fyi. We haven't found that yet.

We stayed on the marina, but there is also room for RVs and Trent camping. There's a nice pool, restaurant, and store on sir as well as pay showers and laundry. The staff is really friendly and the owner is really nice too. It's a fun place to visit.

The food and service here was wonderful. It was a little slow, but that seems to be by design. We were there for lunch and there were no fresh oysters on the menus, but when I asked. They had gotten some in and I was able to order them. Everyone loved their food, except the youngest child who ordered cheesy noodles off the kids menu. It was the one weird thing, it really looked liked box mac n cheese.

The hotel looks interesting, and has an attached restaurant. There are a couple of other businesses nearby, including a bakery and a grocery, but the main attraction is the water taxi to the nearby island.
