Many things have changed about Google's search algorithm since its humble beginning. One constant has remained, however: the importance of backlinks.

I call this "Link Juicy." And yes, it's just a link building parody of Notorious BIG's "Juicy." Hope you like it! Note: Some references are internal, since I wrote it for an internal company platform

It was all a dream
I used to read SEL magazine
Rand Fishkin on my monitor screen
Putting content on my facebook wall
Every whiteboard Friday a new app to install
I pushed my blog live, hoping it would thrive
Started building links so my rankings wouldn't dive
Way back when I had the red and black lumberjack
Flannel, and the white hat to match
Remember Linkin’ Duke? Duh-ha duh-ha
You never thought that outreach would take it this far
Now I’m in the limelight cause I write tight
Time to get ranked, take all the money to the bank
Born spammer, the opposite of crammer
Remember when I used directories when I was in a jammer
Peace to Jon and Zack Ballers, Skinny Joe,
Nate Dawg, Little Dan B, and HR Mo
I’m blowin’ up like you thought I would
Link to my site, my “write for us” is easily understood
And it’s all good
And if you don’t know, now you know, linkers!

You know very well rankings can sink
Don’t let Google hold you down, outreach for links
You had a goal, but not that many
Cause you’re the only one, I’ll give you good and plenty

I made the change from a common putz
To up close and personal with Matt Cutts
And I’m far from cheap, I link to influencers all day
Spread love, it’s the ego bait way
Moz and Ahrefs keep me busy
Webmasters used to dismiss me
Now they write outreach ‘cause they miss me
I never thought it could happen, this linkin’ stuff
I was too used to packin’ local search and stuff
Now SEhOmies play me close like butter played toast
From the Mississippi down to the east coast
Condos in Queens, links on links for weeks
Sold out at SMX to hear Notorious SEO speak
Livin life without FUD
Ranking all my sites cuz I’m that kinda stud
Lunches, brunches, interviews by the pool
Considered a fool cause I don’t listen to John Muel
Stereotypes of a black hat i once withstood
That was years ago, and it’s not all good
And if you don’t know, now you know, linkers!

Don’t let Google hold you down, outreach for links
You had a goal, but not that many
Cause you’re the only one, I’ll give you good and plenty

Lenovo Thinkpad with Intel Graphics
When I was dead broke, man I couldn’t picture this
50 fresh mentions from the skyscraper technique
Got two authority links everyday this week
Internet bill about two G’s flat
No need to worry, my finance department handles that
And my whole team’s ecstatic
Celebratin’ not working in the small, hot attic
Thinkin’ back on my geocities site
Now my links take my rankings to all new heights
And I built so many followers and fans
They all share my content when my smile’s on Search Engine Land
We used to fuss when the manual team dissed us
No rankings, wondering why Google missed us
Penguin updates were the worst days
Now we sip link juice when we thirstay
Damn right I like the links I build
Cause I went from weak-willed to strong-willed
And it’s alll good
And if you don’t know, now you know, linkers!

You know very well rankings can sink
Don’t let Google hold you down, outreach for links
You had a goal, but not that many
Cause you’re the only one, I’ll give you good and plenty

It's been a distinct pleasure working at +Page One Power for the last three years, and I'm grateful for everything I've learned from my experience. Mostly, I'm grateful for the people I've worked with.
One of our staff writers says goodbye. Here are +Jesse Stoler's final thoughts before he leaves. Thanks to everyone that has helped Linkarati become what we've become!

+Andrew Dennis was asked seven questions about link building. His responses will stun you!!! Mostly because they're level-headed and rational, unlike most of the internet

"If your site can’t be found in organic search, you pretty much can’t be found. You may get the occasional random sighting, but so does Bigfoot. Bigfoot believers, of course, often invoke the “missing link” theory to support themselves. How appropriate then that a website’s rare page views can often be attributed to missing links."

Both PR and link building are great, but they have separate objectives.

Would love to hear what you all think about PR as a link acquisition strategy. It's not a wrong idea, it's just an incomplete idea. Plus, Daniel Day-Lewis pictures!
