Streaming the Lean Into Art Cast tonight at 9pm Eastern!
Jerzy Drozd originally shared:

Looking at what we like to discover how to make what we like on the Lean Into Art Cast!

We've talked a lot on the show about "The Analytic Eye"--how reflecting on what moves you can give you insights and inroads to making stuff that you love (be it comics, prose, games, films, and so on). This time on the +Lean Into Art Cast we'll look at methods to review our favs, likes, and +1s. Turning your eye on your Internet activity, and thereby creating a narrative of what's interesting to you, is yet another way to better equip yourself to making interesting stuff!

You can comment during the live stream in the G+ hanogut event page.

Wordpress-style content management system for infinite canvas comics

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/665245218/outdoor-indoor-a-new-system-for-infinite-canvas-co

This Kickstarter campaign to create a CMS for infinite canvas comics looks intriguing. The demo looks great, and if it's funded it will be distributed as a free download to all.

I really wanted to do something like this with The Front: Rebirth when I first began serializing it on the web back in 2003 (http://thefront.me/post/17014711171). Had there been a CMS like the one proposed in this Kickstarter campaign, my book would look quite a bit different.

Talking about everyone's favorite Dark Knight on CAG 97!

You may have heard that this year is the 75th anniversary of the first appearance of Batman. So for the next episode of the +Comics Are Great! show we're going to have a roundtable discussion on why the Caped Crusader remains such an enduring character.

I'll be joined by +Dean Trippe, author of the powerful comic Something Terrible (http://goo.gl/PZ6l0J), and +Kohl Glass, film maker behind Orc Wars (http://goo.gl/e65AIG), who will help us explore how Batman became such an iconic character whose appeal spans generations.

You can participate in the discussion via commenting on the G+ event page.

Talking about finding the path through your project on the 100th Lean Into Art Cast!

In the past 99 episodes we've spent a lot of time talking about the complex problem-solving that comes with being a visual storyteller. White boarding, mind mapping, scripting, sketching, pacing around the room quietly--there are a zillion ways to begin building an idea into a thing. We've also talked a lot about the role of being intentional in the making of your art: watching for things that move you and integrating them thoughtfully into your work. Then there's answering the question of whether your art is an act of expression, or service, or both?

For our 100th episode +Rob Stenzinger and I will reflect on the topics we've covered over the years and explore how Starting a Thing leads to Clarification of Intention, and how Making a Thing with Intention leads to Discovering its Expression and/or Service.

We'll also review the latest round of Quests: http://www.leanintoart.com/quests/2013/10/24/lia-quest-10-a-rainbow-of-feels.html

Talking about independent animation, working with what you got, and keeping on during CAG 96!

In CAG 92 (http://comicsaregreat.com/cag92) I talked with Ben Hatke about the importance of giving our heroes a reason to quit. Why? Because it's so, so satisfying to see them not quit when all evidence suggests that quitting is the sensible solution. Why is that satisfying? Because creative people encounter this on a regular basis. You sacrifice time, money, and relationships in order to pursue your craft, and you're not even sure if it's any good at first. Often when you're starting out you don't have the resources or the skill to create work at the quality level you hope to. So how do you overcome these reasons to quit?

I'm glad to be joined by +Jim Lujan, the creator of many, many animated films, and the writer/animator of the new animated feature Kounterclockwise in Forever-Land (http://goo.gl/qeNg7w). Jim is very nearly the living embodiment of the hero who looks those "reasons to quit" in the eye and answers it by pushing on and making wonderful things. Together we'll discuss how he worked with what he had to leverage a career for himself as an award-winning independent animator.

You can participate in the discussion by commenting on the G+ event page during the live stream.

Recorded live at the Ann Arbor District Library Netcast Studio (http://comics.aadl.org).

Introduction
As a cartoonist, I've worked for publishers and self-published my own comics stories. Here's a list of some things I'm known for:

  • The Front: Rebirth, an all-ages action/adventure graphic novel
  • Sugary Serials, an online and print comics anthology inspired by Saturday morning cartoons
  • PPV: Pay-Per View, a comics mini-series I did for Antarctic Press
  • The Calamity Kids, a series of short stories I did for the Glencoe McGraw-Hill Backpack Reader series

I also work as a freelance illustrator (here's my portfolio). Some of my past clients include:
  • Marvel Comics
  • The Arizona Department of Tourism
  • The Arizona Nutrition Network
  • Wachovia Bank
  • Brain Age games for Nintendo

I'm a teaching artist as well, which is one of my favorite jobs. I teach comics classes and lead presentations on comics year-round in the southeast Michigan area and beyond. Here are some of the places at which I've led classes or presentations:

I co-organize the annual Kids Read Comics Celebration, a free comics event that offers a family-friendly artist alley, drawing demos, and free hands-on workshops for kids and adults.

Lastly, I'm known for creating audio and video shows about comics. I host a weekly show recorded live at the Ann Arbor District Library called Comics Are Great! along with many other shows available on my website.
