The Hot Pond of Certain Death

I am responding to a challenge called #notmycomfortzone that was issued by my friend +Uwe Duwe who had been previously challenged by our mutual friend +Dominique Hilbert who had been challenged by my son +Dylan Johnson! :-)

For this challenge, a person needs to, as I understand it, address their fears and put themselves in uncomfortable situations. Yikes!! And for this photo, I addressed my fear of poisonous snakes by going down to our pond. I am confident it is the home of several Water Moccasins or Cotton Mouths which I fear or certainly am not fond of. So I marched down there in my sandals today and took several photos at water's edge. And I didn't even see a snake! But I did see the largest green lizard ever. To bad it ran before I could take its photo.

Oh, and I would like to invite my friend +Shannon Adelson to this five day challenge. Hope all is well, Shannon, and no pressure!!

OK, here's the Nexus 5 shot that was right next to the DSLR shot I mistakenly posted last night! Just a bit of a drop in quality... :-)

Still don't understand how +Dylan Johnson's photo made it into my Google photos??

+Jerry Johnson you're welcome mate, I really like the cloud cover in this shot, it's like a giant quilt covering the countryside.

Laser Light Show

Can't believe how long it's been since I posted last. Sorry!

This image was quickly snapped on my smartphone yesterday as a storm rolled through. I love how the sun's rays find their way through multiple areas of the cloud cover.

Have a great week everyone!! I'm going to try to get back to posting at least once a week. That's the goal anyhow. :-)

Butterflies - My Photography Nemesis

Yesterday I was not feeling very happy towards butterflies. I went out to see if I could get a shot or two of the many that were flying around the field next to our house. I came back empty handed. Most people think of them as a happy thought. To me, they meant futility.

Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for the pollination that they do. And they are very beautiful to look at. But they are really hard to photograph. If I got close enough to them (which was rare,) they would fly away just as I got my tripod set up.

Apparently the time to shoot them is when it is cold (which was the case with this little guy.) or when it is windy. Having captured a few shots of butterflies today, I am feeling kinder towards them.

Okie Thunderhead

Nexus 5 quick capture. Every time I take a smartphone shot, even if it turns out, I feel like I should have used my DSLR.

Does anyone else have this happen to them? And I mean no offense to smartphone photographers by way of this question!!

I go back and forth +Walter Gawronski. I think I have a split photographic personality. One side enjoys the challenge of the smartphone and the other desires the power of the dslr! :-)

*Grilling"

Got some yard work done today! Now I get to sit back and check out this view to the east of our house, while I grille some burgers. Ahhhhhhh! :-)

PS I wish I could take a photo of the smell I'm smelling. LOL

+Walter Gawronski Just think what a smartphone could do with this lens technology! ;-)
A team of Harvard physicists is developing a completely flat lens that receives light with complete accuracy.

#nexus5

This scene in Prague, Oklahoma reminded me of simpler times. We had a gazebo in the small town I grew up in and I have so many great memories associated with it.

Hope your weekend has been simple and stress free! :-)

PS I couldn't see my smartphone screen well enough to get all my vertical lines lined up. Oh well...

Mammatus Clouds

Caught this on my smartphone before my walk this past Wednesday. Big storms eventually passed through, but all they brought to our property was some much needed rain!

Hope everyone had a terrific weekend! :-)

Introduction
Personally

My wife Kari and I have been married for 25 years and we have six wonderful children.

I enjoy photography, sports, music and reading. I am also a newbie tech geek, especially as it relates to photography and social media for business and personal use.

Professionally

I worked for the same insurance company for 18+ years before departing in 2007. It was a tremendous experience, but alas, it was time for me to move on!

From 2007 until the present, I have actively served in two nonprofit organizations. Volunteering with these organizations has taught me a lot about interpersonal relationships and the demands of running a small business. But even more important, these opportunities have taught me that there is much more to life than earning money.

I have also been providing consulting and expert witness services for plaintiff attorneys and insurance companies when property and casualty claims disputes are litigated.

Most recently, I have been working for a company called Hyperquest.

Google+

I have met so many wonderful people here on G+! My primary interests on this platform are photography, technology and business. And oh what a wealth of information this amazing platform has to offer on each of these "subjects"!

I don't post a lot, but here's the schedule I will try to follow when/if I do post content:
Monday - A b&w photo for the Monochrome Monday theme
Wednesday - Participate in the WordlessWednesday theme

I will also randomly share some of my favorite posts/photos throughout the week.
