The Wizard of Zin In past articles, I’ve written about Zinfandel.  We call it “America’s wine” because it’s

Rafanelli---The Shy Winemakers A waiter at the Post Rio in San Francisco once told me that some of the
best California Zinfandels come from wineries that begin with the letter
“R.”  Most of them, such as Ridge,
Renwood, Rosenblum, and Ravenswood, are fairly...

Loving the Loire
Red, White, and Bleu When it comes to rivers, the Loire is not much to look
at.  Shallow and slow moving, with huge
mud banks that snake from the banks out to the middle.  Pretty disappointing.  It’s only about 90 miles south of Paris, so
it’s an easy trip ...

think of wines from the United States ,
our thoughts naturally turn to California .  After all, Route 29 in Napa Valley is like the Disney World of wine country.
One tasting room after another, all the way...

“Judgment of Paris,” it’s time you get to know him…and his wines. Mike Grgich If you’ve seen the movie Bottle Sh...

Every December, Wine
Spectator magazine publishes a list they call their “Top 100 Wines of the
Year.”  Among my wine geek friends, we just
call them WOTYs.  The list includes
selections by the magazine’s editors, culled from the literally thousands of
wines...

Bargain Bottles
Snail Wine? Maybe It's Time! Go ahead and browse the shelves in your local wine emporium.   Chances are you won’t find many bottles that come from the Côtes de Gascogne.  That’s because Gascony, southeast of Bordeaux, due west of Toulouse, and a hop and ski...
