"Those days are long gone. Almost nobody has a job for life. More and more of us are freelance, hired on a job-by-job basis. If we get sick or injured or merely less cool than we used to be, our employer can forget he ever knew us and hire someone else. Risk has shifted from the corporation to the individual."

Welcome to New York, where you can apparently blame the subway for being late at least a quarter of the time.

"The tools and infrastructure for solving this problem are already at our fingertips. The increasing popularity of wearables, like the #AppleWatch, offers an intuitive and non-obtrusive way to remind patients to take their medications and refill their prescriptions. Built-in biometrics technology means that, eventually, we could use cues like a change in heart rate to alert caretakers that a patient skipped a dose."

We were going to build a new tunnel starting five years ago, but New Jersey Gov. #ChrisChristie abruptly cancelled it.

“We did lose a whole decade,” said Peter Rogoff, a bigwig at the federal Department of Transportation. “We didn’t have a decade to give. We cannot spend another decade thinking and talking about it.”

But that is exactly what we have started to do.

#Slack  is a real game changer for internal collaboration. Highly recommend it -- especially if your office is addicted to email.

#nptech
Last year blogger Beejoli Shah started to notice a curious new artifact populating her social media feeds: screenshots of office chats, mostly taking place in an upstart workplace communication tool called Slack. At first Shah failed to see the appeal of sharing a few lines of water cooler conversation among...

Moral of the story: stop being so reactionary or cobras will flood the streets.
Rash fixes often backfire, producing a longer route to success rather than a shortcut.

We need to bridge the digital divide.

"People don’t put out ‘for rent’ signs anymore, so the #Internet is the best way... You can’t even go get a paper application for a lot of things. You can’t get a job unless you get online."
Some companies in the Bay Area turn to technology to aid people who sleep on the streets, for whom a phone can be a lifeline.

So many great local vendors from which to sample and buy--from bakeries to produce, to dairy and liquor, this market is awesome. Try the Lake George Distilling Company.

Iconic. Opulent. And a sight to behold. When it's busy, Grand Central buzzes with energy and is still aglow in golden light. Even after living her for nearly a decade, I still take some time when I'm in the Grand Concourse.

It's exactly what you think it should be: karaoke and a cave. Lots of screens and a pretty open space make this place great for small groups, especially if you don't mind mixing and mingling with others.

One of the best cocktail bars in the area. Anything with whiskey is awesome here, and the bloody mary comes with a little beer.

Great beer menu, but be warned that the full list isn't available upstairs at the bar--which is important if you prefer dark beers (get your drinks from downstairs).
