We were going to build a new tunnel starting five years ago, but New Jersey Gov. #ChrisChristie abruptly cancelled it.

“We did lose a whole decade,” said Peter Rogoff, a bigwig at the federal Department of Transportation. “We didn’t have a decade to give. We cannot spend another decade thinking and talking about it.”

But that is exactly what we have started to do.

#Slack  is a real game changer for internal collaboration. Highly recommend it -- especially if your office is addicted to email.

#nptech
Last year blogger Beejoli Shah started to notice a curious new artifact populating her social media feeds: screenshots of office chats, mostly taking place in an upstart workplace communication tool called Slack. At first Shah failed to see the appeal of sharing a few lines of water cooler conversation among...

"The normal state of things is not growth. It is decline."

+Jeff Shuck spells out why organizations need to invest in staff, tools, and strategy for growth -- not just expect it to happen.

It has been a rewarding and busy quarter for me. Already this year I've had quite a number of intense, immersive meetings with our nonprofit clients.Growth has been the central theme of every meeting. There's optimism in the air again, and as the recession finally wears off, groups are looking out of the bunker window-slit to try to decide what to do next. Our engagements usually include a review of current growth forecasts (along with, eventually...

WAY too many organizations fall down this well. Heed this advice:

“Why would you go start your own payments capabilities, your own payment analytics, your own map capabilities when they’re so easily accessible from these other companies and are arguably better?”

Exactly.

"One of the ironies of a conference dedicated to all things digital and virtual is that the best ways to connect with people are often surprisingly old-school. Social media tools can improve the odds of a serendipitous encounter at SXSW Interactive, but old-fashioned hustle, face time at bars and parties and—above all—creativity go a long way."
Back in the spring of 1994, a little-known event called the SXSW Film & Multimedia conference debuted in Austin, Texas. (It was a spinoff of the better-known SXSW Music Festival.) The hundreds of people who attended the small, inaugural conference presumably had no idea that it would eventually grow into one of the biggest networking events in the tech world.SXSW Film & Multimedia soon branched off into SXSW Interactive, the launchpad from which ...

Moral of the story: stop being so reactionary or cobras will flood the streets.
Rash fixes often backfire, producing a longer route to success rather than a shortcut.

We need to bridge the digital divide.

"People don’t put out ‘for rent’ signs anymore, so the #Internet is the best way... You can’t even go get a paper application for a lot of things. You can’t get a job unless you get online."
Some companies in the Bay Area turn to technology to aid people who sleep on the streets, for whom a phone can be a lifeline.

This could be revolutionary for #nonprofit  orgs in need of some secondary, ultra-portable computing power on the cheap.

I'm a huge proponent of public #transit , but the current system is failing us. Absent innovation on the part of our state and city #MTA , why shouldn't we allow some private sector disruption?

This might be good for Miami, where a handful of traffic arteries bring workers to downtown and Brickell.
