We easily pass the pious judgment of “hating the sin and loving the sinner” without even having a relationship with the sinner – let alone loving him.

What are the implications for those who claim Christ?

There are four definitive character traits that should mark Christ’s Church... Do you know what they are?
Throughout the New Testament, Jesus has many interesting responses to the actions and attitudes of the Pharisees. We often take the wickedness of these religious zealots for granted – but the kicker is that they didn't know that they were the bad guys! They believed that they were really walking ...

When I was growing up, my grandparents had a cabin in the Minnesota North Woods. I loved spending time there, on the edge of the wilderness, fishing in the summer and hunting in the fall. I often think back to the solitude of those early mornings, the glassy lake, deafening silence, ...

People long for deep, reliable, reciprocal unity strong enough to weather even the most intense challenges. It’s there for you right now, today!
The 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team went on to victory over a seemingly invincible Russian squad. It's one of the greatest moments in athletic history, and Miracle captures it brilliantly and never fails to inspire a sense of awe. These examples point to the fact that people long for deep, ...

Throughout law school, I co-led a morning Bible study for a group of guys. We started meeting together to combat the isolation inherent in law school's hyper-competitive atmosphere and the destructive cathartic options so readily available. But for many of us, the group turned into much more.

Would you rather be right or good?

Compelling (and convicting) thoughts from Dr. Steve Gerali on goodness!
In our last post, we talked about 4 dominating traits that mark the people of God. They are Love, Goodness, Wisdom and Freedom. Sadly these are NOT character traits that would be the knee-jerk descriptors of the church today. We need to be proactive to change this by living into those traits.

Steve's post this week - great thoughts on being intentional during each day of Holy Week!
Here on Nextwelve.com we strongly believe that living intentionally allows a person to become all that he or she desires to be. Intentional living puts us in a position to experience the fullness of life. This week, leading up to Easter is called Holy Week. It marks the events and teachings of ...

Steve's post this week - great ideas for combating the urgency life constantly throws at us.
This past week I found myself in four different conversations with friends and colleagues who were stressed out because of urgent situations. In the midst of each conversation, I thought about Jer's last post about the need for quietness in our lives. My friends couldn't find quietness because ...

Misunderstanding forgiveness often robs us of freedom. How free are you?
Alexander Pope said, “To err is human, to forgive, divine.” The theme of my week seems to be “forgiveness.” I am writing a curriculum for a high school fraternity and this week's topic was forgiveness. So I began to write. About midweek, a friend posted a question online about forgiveness.

Many people don't know how to dream or accomplish their dreams.

What about you?

Check out this week's post by Dr. Steve Gerali!
This past week, I met with one of the college guys I mentor. As we talked about his expectations for the semester, he confidently proclaimed that he had finished thinking through his plans for the rest of his time at school. I decided that I would push a bit further. “That's great!

I recently paid a visit to Sam and Angela at Jewels on Lake based on all the fantastic Yelp reviews – and let me say, it’s not overrated! Pardon the pun, but this store is one of the San Gabriel Valley’s true gems! Sam is extremely knowledgeable and generous. In twenty minutes with him, I learned more about diamonds and settings than from every other jeweler I’ve ever visited, combined. It’s very apparent in talking to Sam that loves what he does, and it’s evident in the beautiful jewelry he creates. If you’re in the market for a ring, necklace, bracelet, or earrings, do yourself a favor: Don’t buy anything until you go see Sam! Seriously. You’ll be glad you did.
