"What should you do instead? Avoid sending an e-mail that reads like a press release or a briefing book. Talk about why a particular policy is important to you and how it affects your life. If you don’t have a good story to tell, don’t press send. More importantly, any group that brags about the volume of e-mails that it sends doesn’t deserve your money. There are many groups doing incredible work at every level of government — find them and give to them."

It's a shame about the clickbait-y headline; the advice in this article makes a lot of sense. Human beings hate being lectured at, but they love stories. A good story can weave its way in the mind and take root far more easily than any list of facts ever will.

Uber is the Donald Trump of Silicon Valley companies: every time you think you've reached the end of their lies and cheating, some new awful thing is revealed.

It took an accused goddamn child molester as opposition to make it happen... but a Democrat won a Senate seat in Alabama.

Nice to see a win for a change this year.

Android’s settings, [are] now somehow both more customizable, and more manageable than Apple’s. Seriously. Open the settings on Android, and you’ll find 13 listed items like sound, storage, and accessibility. On Apple, there are 32–almost three times as many–and that’s before you scroll down to the settings Apple has listed for every single individual app. In attempting to surface any feature a person could want, Apple has placed every function onto the same hierarchical level, and left it to the user to sort through this flat pile.

Great article from a very recent Android convert

Advanced search operators

Over the next few days, we'll be rolling out advanced search operators to the Google+ search box to assist you in refining your Google+ search queries. For example, I typed from:"Ina Gat" has:photo commenter:me into the search box and rediscovered this nice bokeh shot from +Ina Gat.

You can search for posts that have particular attachments (like has:poll), posts where you were mentioned (like mention:me), posts before or after a date (like before:2016-04-01), posts in communities or collections, and more! You can even use operators like AND, NOT, and OR.

Read the complete set of rules at: https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1669519

Enjoy!

You go, Mr. Crews.

To those who say "Terry should've just punched that sonufabitch out right then and there," no, please, stop. Assuming arguendo the event happened as Mr. Crews says, he did absolutely nothing wrong here. You don't get to tell him what he should have done or how he should have handled it.

Tell the guy who did this, "Terry should've just knocked your teeth out." Tell him that you would've applauded had he received instant karma flavored like dental pain and a sock full of old pennies. But don't tell Mr. Crews that he somehow screwed up. Mr. Crews had the right to handle this any legal way he chose. He chose one without violence.

All praise to The Celestial Snow Plow for clearing (most of) the ice off the sidewalks in my 'hood. I am now a much happier city-dweller. ☀️☀️☀️
