the grand prix of monaco ...
welcome, plussers, to another race weekend here at G+! ...

location, location ...
this time it's the [putting on my best french accent] grand prix de monaco ... this is what the #formulaone is all about ... the rich and the beautiful, tradition, famous folks, money, parties, yachts and all this with loads of sunshine and the opaz waters of the french riviera ... in awarding its first gold medal for motor sport to prince rainier III, the fedération internationale de l'automobile (FIA) characterised the monaco grand prix as contributing "an exceptional location of glamour and prestige" to motor sport [source: wikipedia - http://bit.ly/KSysTl) ... couldn't have said it better ... ;-) ...

many #formula1 drivers actually live here, since it's a tax haven ... of course you wouldn't get them to admit that ... jeremy clarkson of the BBC car TV show top gear tried and failed (http://bit.ly/JMqH5A) ... though it's a dangerous track, they all like racing here too, but of course that's only natural ... this environment (called the millionaire's playground) is for them like water for the fish ... the #monacograndprix is quite simply the most famous street race in the world and it is also my favorite GP of the year ... the atmosphere here is like nowhere else and one day i hope to see it live ... i've been to monaco several times and i've been to #F1 grand prix in other locations, but i've never been to a GP in monaco ... one of my big dreams is to remedy that one day ...

free practice on thursday ...
so what has happened up to now? ... well, of course the first thing is, that the free practice will not be tomorrow (friday) as usual, but it already happened today ... though the morning was blessed with meditteranean sunshine, rain hit the afternoon session just an hour after start and messed things up a bit ... while fernando alonso on ferrari led during the morning session, jenson button on mclaren was the quickest runner after lunch before the rain hit ... read a comprehensive report here http://bit.ly/JMupw6 ... if you want to find out, what the drivers thought of the free practice sessions, read here http://bit.ly/JMufEV ...

predictions ...
what is going to happen at one of the oldest #grandprix in the formula 1? ... will the pole man win the race again as it so often happens here? ... will we see a 6th winner in the 6th race? ... this season seems impossible to predict, but i'll have a go anyway ... mclaren has produced some fairly quick one-lap speed, and will be tough to beat during saturday’s qualifying session ... pole for lewis hamilton? ... that could mean his first win this season too ... both red bull and lotus were also very quick through the last sector at the circuit de catalunya due to their good traction and the ability to quickly accelerate out of tight corners, which bodes well for the slow nature of #monaco ... due to the differing levels of tyre degradation the field will be certain to close up towards the end of the grand prix ... maybe that means we'll see another fascinating battle like the one between ayrton senna and nigel mansell in 1992? ... everything is possible in this unpredictable 2012 F1 season, but for what it's worth, this is my prediction:

qualifying: 1. hamilton 2. vettel 3. alonso
race: 1. alonso 2. hamilton 3. button

(i'm only guessing) ... ;-) ... what's your prediction? ... let me know in a comment! ... let's hope we have a good race ... weather forcasts are not good, with serious rain on saturday, and possible showers on sunday, but who knows, right? ...

formula 1 race hangout ...
as at most races, i will open up a race #hangout again ... let's watch the F1 together, shall we? ... for all those of you who haven't been in one of my formula 1 race hangouts yet, here is how it works ...

i will open the hangout about an hour before the race (find out here, when exactly that will be in your time zone http://bit.ly/KCVdJk) ... i will invite the members of my special race hangout circle first (if you want to be included, leave a comment underneath this post) ... just before the race starts (and if there are still places left), i will invite my formula 1 circle and after the start open it up to the public ... if there are more than 10 who want to join, we'll either do turns or arrange more hangouts ...

edit: we will NOT broadcast the race in the hangout ... for several reasons ...

▸ we can all watch the race on our big screens, in the language we prefer (in my case german) ...
▸ the audio of the race won't take over the hangout, which means we can talk along ...
▸ we have one more space for a formula 1 buff who wants to join the hangout ...

as always, thank you for reading through my babbling ... i hope you enjoy reading it as much as i enjoy writing it ... i appreciate every +1 and comment you care to leave and of course share, share, share!!! ... i'm really looking forward to this GP and preferably to watch it with you guys in a hangout ... i hope my favorite driver, nico rosberg, will be able to show what he's made off at his home race and i hope the weather will hold ... see you all then ... ;-) ...

greez,
+Jens Graikowski ...

I would love to go to Monaco one day!!!

+Jake Croston it's a great place to visit, amazing cars everywhere and it feels like you're inside a computer game

q hamilton raikonen rosberg
r raikonen button rosberg

I'll be traveling, so i won't be able to join the hangout, but that sounds like a cool idea in general! I watched a boxing fight with some people in a hangout a while back...

And btw i want to see vettel in the medal ranks this time!!

don't forget to leave your predictions, guys (for those who haven't done it yet) ...

i'll be holding F1 race hangouts at almost every GP +Thorben Groth ... you're welcome anytime ... let me know if you want to be included in the race hangout circle! ...

that counts for everybody else too ... the race hangout circle is the first that gets invited ... if the hangout is full, we'll have to think of something else ...

But on air would be cool...! People could watch you guys commenting on the race, you wouldn't have to worry about letting people stand in the rain, it could become a regular thing - just a gathering of F1 fans.. ;)

btw ... i should maybe clarify that ... we will NOT broadcast the race in the hangout ... for several reasons ...

▸ we can all watch the race on our big screens, in the language we prefer (in my case german) ...
▸ the audio of the race won't take over the hangout, which means we can talk along ...
▸ we have one more space for a formula 1 buff who wants to join the hangout ...

i will edit the post accordingly ...

your idea is quite interesting +Thorben Groth ... i think we might do it on air after all ... what does everybody else think of that? ...

please guys, share, so we can extend our little F1 community ... let everybody know we are here and are holding race hangouts! ... ;-) ...

(1) Grosjean, (2) Vettel, (3) Alonso... Though I think Kimi might be in there, even with the win possibly.

i'm not sure if i see grosjean as the winner +Christopher Hill, but the track seems to suit him and his lotus well ... he also likes monaco, which doesn't make him a winner, but should give him some confidence ...

I feel that Lotus has been on the way up, they have a fast chassis, and great drivers, so I am predicting their win. I think the odds favor Kimi here, but Romain seems to be on the cusp of a breakthrough, and I think we just might see it at Monaco. In any case, it would make for an incredible race! I am excited for this one :)

+Jens Graikowski How I'm suppose to join the hangout an hour early!? :- 0 That's when I watch Bob Varsha, Steve Matchett, and David Hobbs!! And let's not forget Will Buxton! That first hour pre-race is where I get a lot of insight into the behind-the-scenes stuff! As a newbie to F1 (this is my 3rd season) I rely on that hour to be able to talk quasi-intelligently about F1! :-)

I'm going w/ Alonso for the Q....he's had some great runs in quals this season. For the race win.... Button, Raikomen,Vettel

that's exactly what i mean +Loreen Liberty ... we all watch the race on our own tellies ... i'll watch the pre-race on RTL in german ... doesn't mean we can't hangout together and talk quasi-intelligently about F1 ... ;-) ...

+Jens Graikowski Ja! Ich sprechen "a little" Deutsche... Zwei Jahre "in high school", "followed by" zwei jahre in Augsburg. :-)

I hope to join for the race. I haven't had a lot of success, mine seems to die 10-15 minutes in. But I'll be there.

Oh, prediction.... Webber to pole. Hamilton to win. Webber to set fastest lap on the last corner.

I can keep a secret +Jens Graikowski but your lifestyle may give you away. Isn't it fun to do this even in your dreams?

+Jens Graikowski I just read your profile. You do have the life of a play boy: sub-tropical island, fin swimming -- I love any body of water -- daughter who is award winning fin swimmer. Pretty cool, guy.
