Without better alternatives, this is where I'll likely be when G+ shuts down.

I hit my invite limit for today. You can always invite me, though.

I saw a lot of posts this morning morning discussing what features an ideal G+ replacement would have to have for people to migrate there.

I get it. All social media experiences suck. You all have ideas on how to improve them. These are valid ideas, and the ideal system, once actually implemented, would leave you comfortable.

Except...

Except it doesn't matter. Social media are what we make of them. Notice the plural. Your ideal system will not matter if the people you care about don't use it.

And here's the terrible truth about software design: one person's feature is another person's bug. Your ideal system? It won't be for them.

So they won't follow. Or not all of them.

So the question is, what's more important - the media part that you control, or the social part that you don't?

Because you have to decide.

For me - and I will never judge if you cannot agree - the choice is simple. I'm on social media for the people.

So I'm not going to gripe over how one system is better or worse than another. Oh, sure, that can pass the time. But it's not going to help my online social life.

I'm just going where the people are.

So, new email server, slightly different setup than before.

Most interesting to note so far is that the amount of spam has reduced massively by simply adding a delay to the EHLO greeting at the start of the connection.

Sure, RBLs, SURBLs, DKIM-Verifier, virus and spam scanner catch a few things - but it's not so much anymore.

We'll survive the robot revolution yet, if we just slow everything down with bureaucracy.

Meh. Maybe it's time to take the C64 out of the basement again and play some games.

Prima Artikel!
