Sorry, Google+, but you've been out-classed and you're still playing catch up. Not to mention you're a dying breed. Engagement has dropped significantly. Users & followers have disappeared overnight.
The user experience is horrific (both desktop and mobile) and no one cares about having a Google account anymore. You killed the "social" aspect years ago, and you're still dumping things that your most fan-tastic users have enjoyed and loved since day one.
What's the strategy? Is there any light at the end of this tunnel? You think by focusing on "groups" (where "Spaces", "Communities", "Collections", etc. etc. was supposed to shine, but really didn't) and by mining everything about your users to the point where Facebook might even blush - that ultimately people are just going to wait it out?
We've all been there before. You look at and respond to data, not real people. I'm not saying this place is a ghost-town. I'm saying you're making it one. And it's bland, inefficient, and years behind other networks. I could care less if you already think you know everything about me. But you seriously don't. The feed and the suggestions are so off it's laughable. For a company who specializes in advanced algorithms.. You have quite a ways to go!
Otherwise, it was fun while it lasted. More so, it was... a feeble attempt at "fun". I'll admit you did some things right along the way, and credit is given where credit is due. However, I'm no longer impressed. Call me a jaded, ranting, whiny bitch if that makes you feel better. Because the only people left here are Google fanatics and a VERY small niche of enthusiasts still sucking your teat.
I'm just not one of them. So I'm moving on. I'm done here. I don't think most people will even see nor even read this much to know the difference. But I can sincerely say Google+ used to be the place I checked first thing every morning and right before sleep. Even if I never posted a whole lot, I was still in awe by the amount of information I just couldn't find elsewhere.
I'm talking about the diversity, the culture, the everyday lives of people I wouldn't have otherwise met or learned about anywhere else online. And it's all being diminished and dismantled day after day, year after year. Truly sad. I say that because the concept was always there, but the implementation? Not anymore.
Anyways it's been a good run. You had your time and place, and I stuck around just long enough to watch it all play out. With all that being said... So long and thanks for all the fish.
Peace.
