Hey #startup  peeps, good info here.

6 solid tips that you should always remember about trademarks. (Although I am biased about #1.)
Back in February of this year I wrote a post entitled License To Brand: When It Comes To Licensed Products Brands Need To Always Be On Their Game in which I spoke about the need for marketers and advertisers to protect their brands' licensed products at all times. Today, it's about trademarks. Susan Gunelius, [...]

Ha. Ha. LOVE this from Marie Jacquier in Western Australia:

"Two cheeky SMAC monkeys in my letter box! The adorable SMAC! monkeys Phoenix and NoMo arrived in Western Australia today. Thank you...they arrived so fast with no sign of jet lag. They are bright and bubbly and ready to swing on our gum trees! They are so adorable and I can't wait to take them to meet my sister Maureen who has lung cancer."

Let's send some SMAC! POWER to Maureen!!!!!

One more example why I don't believe in coincidences!

Sweet serendipity. I was at a networking event last night at Lark, a Blow Dry Studio with the SMAC! monkeys. We all introduced ourselves and described our business.

The gorgeous girl you see next to me, Kim Williamson, said she
remembered my Mom's story (the inspiration behind creation of SMAC!), had actually torn out the article in the magazine to keep. Her mom also died of #lungcancer

Kim was recently diagnosed #breastcancer  and has surgery very soon. Luckily, I had a NoMo to give to her. I don't believe in coincidences. Kim and I were supposed to meet and I think my Mom may be having some fun doing orchestrating from above!!

Let's all wish Kim the best in her care and treatment!!! SMAC! it Kim.

Story
Tagline
Social entrepreneur. Cancer advocate. Former journo. PR/SM strategist. Using social media to create CHANGE! Founder of SMAC! Sock Monkeys Against Cancer and social media movement "WTF? (Where's the Funding) for Lung Cancer?"
Introduction

In a nutshell...I don't "do" status quo.

Social enterprise. Entrepreneur. Social media/PR strategist. Journo. Change agent. Activist. Founder of "WTF? (Where's the Funding) for Lung Cancer?" social media campaign. Chocolate.

I began my career in 1997 as a TV news reporter for KMTV-Channel 3, the CBS affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska. While working on my master’s degree in journalism, I became an intern at KMTV, working as anchor/reporter Deborah Ward’s protégé. After Deb wrote and edited her stories, I pieced together my own version of the story and aggressively approached the news director to continually critique my work. A short time later, I was hired as a full-time general assignment reporter.

After three years in the news business, I made the transition to the “other side” - public relations - where I became press secretary for Omaha Mayor Hal Daub. In 1999, Mayor Daub’s approval rating among the voters of Omaha was at 32%. Nearly 2 ½ years later, despite his losing bid for re-election, my team helped catapult the Mayor’s approval rating to nearly 70% among Omaha voters.

Following my political stint, I jumped into agency life, where I built a public relations department at Ervin & Smith Public Relations and Advertising in Omaha from zero to four full-time employees in nine months. I was privileged to work on prominent accounts, such as Ameritrade (now TD Ameritrade), Lindsay Manufacturing, HearthStone Homes, among others.

I moved to Swanson Russell, Nebraska's largest advertising, public relations, communications firm in 2004 as Public Relations Counsel. I was promoted to public relations manager at Swanson Russell associates due to existing client and new business growth. I created a public relations department (Omaha office) from zero to five full-time employees in three years.

I provided PR/social media strategy development and execution of comprehensive public relations programs, primarily in consumer and business-to-business categories, for a wide variety of clients, such as Land O Lakes Purina Mills, Schering-Plough Animal Health, Creighton University Medical Center, Sergeant's Pet Care Products, Inc., among others.

Specialties:

Social media public/media relations strategy; media relations on international, national, regional, state and local levels; crisis communications; reputation management; media training; media spokesperson; media event planning and coordination; writing public relations materials, such as speeches, media statements, articles, talking points, news releases and various social media networking content.
