even for this non-catholic (me), an impressive moment -- captured first hand by former u.s. ambassador to mexico ---
i wanted to share some of the images i snapped at the basilica .... almost 500 years ago, the bishop of mexico sank to his knees when juan diego revealed to him the magnificent image of the virgin of guadalupe emblazoned on his cloak. today's feast of our lady of guadalupe, draws millions overnight and this morning to pray, reflect and celebrate.

Four years ago, I had a one month old at home, and I found myself awaiting emergency surgery and two months with a feeding tube to address a perforated esophagus (the handiwork of a less than capable anesthesiologist). It taught me a lot about faith, an incredible lesson in patience, and it showed me the inherent goodness in so many people that surround me and support me daily, especially during that most difficult time. You can learn amazing life lessons at the most unexpected times and in the most unreal ways.
