With every family session I seem to find one photo that embodies who they are.  One photo that shows what they are about at that moment in time.  For the Ligon family, this is that picture.

While you can’t see mom in this picture, she is there… this is what she sees on a daily basis.  In fact, she was standing right next to me when I shot this.

This is from her point of view.

At 5:30 on a Saturday morning my alarm rang out through the house.  I didn’t really need the help because rising early is oddly easy for me… I love waking to a quiet, undisturbed home.   If I’m lucky, I can sit and sip my coffee while I figure out what my day will hold.  But on this day I already knew what I’d be doing… spending it with a new client and watching how their Saturday morning unfolds.   The thought gave me jitters… the good kind.

Roughly an hour or so after waking, I crossed through the Caldecott tunnel and exhaled.  There is something about the crowded streets and busy life of the Bay Area that touches my soul.   While it’s only a few miles from where I live, Berkeley and Oakland seem like a world away.  And San Francisco even farther.  I guess that’s why I treasure my visits to these places.  Each trip feels like a mini expedition.

. . . . .

Meet the McGilloways.

If you’ve been in denial that the photography industry is changing and that the role of a professional photographer may never again exist in the forms we’re all familiar with, it’s time to wake up.

This mama speaks my language.  She is enamored with her children and wants to soak up every milestone and moment.  From the way her youngest would prefer to slide along the floor rather than crawl, to her daughter talking and singing herself to sleep each night… every moment for this mom is worthy of remembering.  Even the fussy and messy moments.  They all matter.

A few weeks ago, I posted a lovely Danville Saturday Morning photo session that somehow morphed into a Family Life session.  This happened because, when talking with this mama, it became quite clear that her sentimental heart was barely being contained in her petite frame.  She told me beautiful, moving stories of her daughter, husband and distant relatives.  With each story I asked myself, “does she know what her love looks like?”  It’s radiating off of her, and her eyes brightly shine when she speaks of her family.  I wondered,  ”does she see what I see?”

Fillings for a 5 year old - an unbelievably perfect experience. Dr. Ozzie is amazing. My 5 year sadly had 2 cavities. I was so worried about getting them filled... I didn't want to scar him for life. But she was so wonderful. The second they found the cavities, they never mentioned the procedure to him and acted like it wasn't a big deal. So relieving! Yesterday we went in and everything Dr. Ozzie and her staff did made the whole process fun (for both of us!) She doesn't bother them with the details... she understands how powerful the mind is, so she makes up alternate realities for what is really happening (sugar bugs need to be cleaned up. There is a trampoline just for the sugar bugs, etc...) My son didn't flinch once. In fact, he came home happy about it and was bragging about it to his dad later that day. So sweet. I recommend Dr. Ozzie 100%. I wish she took adults!
