Guess what Jennifer did today!?
I, sold, my, CAR! For almost nothing what I paid for it! The money saved not using a vehicle just dropped 3 bills permanently from my life ie; gas, insurance, and maintenance. This automatically frees up over 1200 I was spending annually on insurance. So add fuel, taxes and upkeep and its even more. Look at these numbers I got using a calculator!!! This is is my junker car. I can only imagine how much more it would save had I owned a newer car! This to me is a no brainer!

I am going to be posting some links over the weeks to useful articles to get you motivated!!! I obviously did NOT write these articles and I am NOT looking to profit off anyone. Enjoy! You CAN change your life! It just takes a minute to rewire yourself! Think of it as rewiring your house with updated and current (lol)!!

I wanted to hash a bit on meal prepping. I have slowly begun to gather the required tools for vaccum sealing my fruits and veggies. I also plan on getting more of those at farmers markets as you can sometimes haggle prices! The kits are not that expensive and food can last up to 6 months and its better than canned food!

Hello hello!

What do I have to touch on first. Let us talk of SAVING!! Put away your pocketbook, wallet, purse or whatever you store your currency in!
I recently read that over 72% of Americans do not have $500.00 in their savings accounts! What do people do when they get emergencies? They pull out that plastic card and charge it, or take out a payday loan, or what's worse? Borrowing from a friend or relative! And it is extremely embarrassing! Why is this? I will give you a hint, it is modern consumerism! We are brainwashed to believe we need the new toy, or the new phone or the latest and greatest! STOP!!!

When I look at something I really have to ask myself if it is a NEED or a WANT. Almost 100% of the time it ends up being a want, and totally a waste of money. Are you eating out more than twice per month? If you are STOP! I can make 2 dinners for myself with a store packaged container of stirfry for $5. Add some rice and I have a HEALTHY meal that is only $5 as I already have bags of rice. Plus I can eat it x2 and that saves me money. You have to rewire your thought process. It can be extremely difficult and for women we need more products than men, IE makeup, tampons, PMS survival kits, etc etc.

How often do you drink? Or smoke cigarettes, or 420? Those are things you have to consider when getting serious about saving your money. I CHOOSE to live extremely below my means just to save each month. I get paid on the 1st and 16th. So I get 2 shots each month to plan out my budget.

Can you walk to work or ride a bicycle? I recently started bicycling to work instead of driving. It took me 10 mins in my car and 13 on the bicycle. Yes its an extra 3 minutes but I am usually 20-30 mins early to work (management). On top of not spending money on fuel I am cycling an avg of 7.6 miles each day round trip and I feel amazing! This leaves me only using my car for important reasons like a run to the grocery store or the bank or doctors office. In cycling, I also joined Uber Eats because they offer bicycle food deliveries. The extra money I make from this will go into a high yield savings account. Goldman Sachs offers savings accounts with 1.5% annual and over 2% on CDs held 12+months via their amazing new program MARCUS.

Does your current lifestyle defer you from working a pt job? You can always make a little extra money parting with collectables and things just sitting. For instance I recently sold some items on ebay that fetched a few benjamins! What did I do with the earnings? I put half into my savings and half into a stock account I have. You can also use apps like Stash or my personal favorite Acorns. Acorns rounds up transactions from purchases and when your round ups reach $5, that is put into a brokerage account managed by Acorns. You have the options of Low to High risk. There is a monthly fee of $1. There is also an option to double the roundup which I have set to invest even more.

I have the understanding that the markets fluctuate constantly and this is why I do not put all my eggs into one basket. Diversification is a wonderful tool along with compounding numbers. Did you know, if you bought a few shares and hold onto them over a year, you pay LESS capital gains tax than you would if you cashed out before that? Warren Buffet is famous for the term "Buying and Holding". I love this method as I am excellent with patience and just let it do what it does. I know 100% up front I am risking losing some or all. Diversification. I now have several places I keep my earnings. If I can save and pay bills on $11 per hour ANYONE CAN.

One of my main reasons to save my money was trying to cut out paying rent EVER AGAIN. And the only way for me to achieve this is buying a rental for myself such as a duplex, triplex or 4plex. I was blessed in learning how to build houses with my father and became quite the carpentress which is very rare in construction. If I can get a mortgage for around what I pay for rent and someone else is paying the mortgage I can use my ft job paychecks to SAVE or update my property increasing the value. Colorado requires me to live in my dwelling for a min of 2 years. So what I decided was if I found 2 bedroom units I could rent one of the rooms on my side as well and pay down the mortgage or get a 2nd property and keep rolling.

So what am I sacrificing with my life? Almost everything. Why, you ask? Life has been cruel to me. And I decided I was not going to play the game anymore. I will take control of my life. Also, how good would it make me feel knowing I am empowering my friends around me? There is nothing wrong with keeping focused and goal driven. I do not have family or many friends, so it is very easy for me to work, save, sleep and repeat. I am in my early 30s and plan on being financially free in the next 10 years. Then I can focus on friends and maybe have a family of my own, or a dog would be just as nice. I appreciate you reading my un-organized savings blog.

Good luck!

Jennifer A.
