You guys. I’ve slacked a lot this summer in the blogging department, so I’m hoping you’re keeping up with me via Instagram. If you’re not, I’m sorry. I post there often, mostly because it’s easy and I can do it on the go. Though I’m there a lot less than I used to be because … … Continue reading →

The story really makes me cry, because I fail, quite often, at being the best version of me. Luckily, I have been able to wake up the next day and get a do-over, so I can still work on being the best version of me I can be. #horsemanship   #horses
Living deliberately and intentionally is something anyone would aspire towards, and Jenn Zeller is doing just that as a working rancher in the rural community…

Sarcoid skin tumors are the most common form of cancer in horses, but little is known about why the papillomavirus behind them strikes some horses and not others. A new study by an international research group led by scientists at the Baker Institute for Animal Health at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine shows genetic differences in immune function between horses partly accounts for these differences. The study, published in the Internatio...

Make sure you join me for my 6 part series on moving your horse's hips, why it's important, and how to get it done! #horsemanship   #horses   #horsetraining   #coltstarting
It is important to teach your horse body control and one way to begin that is to help your horse get fluid through their hips.

If you've never been able to attend this event, you should make plans to get there in 2017. You won't regret it. #horses   #horsemanship   #horsetraining
Horsemen from all disciplines descended upon Fort Worth this past March to watch colt starting, ranch roping and more at the Legacy of Legends Event.

Good stuff about horses.
In Part 3 of this series on moving your horse's hips, we'll continue with the ways you can ask for your horse to move correctly and quietly.

There are good things happening here at the ranch!
We recently had the Cheyenne River Youth Horsemanship Program out to the place for another horsemanship demonstration, where they showed us the progress they've made in training two of the geldings we donated to them. Check them out: Leonard sports a smile as big as his rider... Youth Horsewoman and Project H3LP! Intern helps Winston through his first experience with a super-sized, lime green ball! Keep up the great work, ever...

The US Gvmt has a double standard, if this doesn't show you they do, there's no hope for you to see it. ;-)
The South Dakota Stockgrowers Association sent letters this week to congressional delegates, the U.S. Attorney General’s office and the South Dakota Attorney General’s office questioning what they call “egregiously unbalanced response of federal land management agencies” and supporting the claims South Dakota ranchers made for compensation after the 2013 Pautre Fire burned nearly 10,000 acres of federal and private land.“There is a big double sta...

The Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule has created much angst and confusion in cattle country. And the rule itself is just the beginning. If the rule is upheld as written, it is about more than just EPA having jurisdiction over every drop of water on your land.

Yeah, we all saw recently in Colorado how well EPA can manage waterways! Releasing toxic waste into the river that flows through 3 different states and letting the darn thing contaminate the water without letting those states know until it was way too late to do anything.

Introduction
I'm just a girl. Who's been swept off her feet, and stolen out of Texas to live on a ranch. An 8500 acre ranch on a Reservation. We raise Black Angus Cattle and Registered American Quarter horses. We're In the Middle of Nowhere, South Dakota. :-)  Seriously. Our closest neighbor is 5 miles away!  I train barrel horses for a living.  I like all things girlie. But you can usually find me in pink-topped ML Leddy cowboy boots nearly everyday. I have dirt under my perpetually painted fingernails. I'm surrounded by a beautiful river, tall grass, and horses (right now there's lots of snow too!). I have one boyfriend, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and soon a dozen chickens! Together, we have about 100 horses and 300 mama cows! I love my life!

WORST ONLINE CUSTOMER SERVICE on the planet. I ordered light fixtures online in MARCH of 2014, and never received them. They tell me a year later, they're shipping them via FedEX and they do -- To an address in Michigan. I live in South Dakota. Nice.

As far as time-shares go, this is on the bottom end of the stick as far as I'm concerned. The service was horrendous, the room itself is fine, but is old, out-dated and doesn't have a fully furnished kitchen. If you wanted to come stay for a full week and cook say Christmas dinner, you'd have trouble. There's not extra glasses, or such and if you want to run the dishwasher, great, but once you run out of toilet paper, or dishwashing soap you better get out the wallet b/c they're charging you. I've never run into that before. They should have at least 8 place settings (8 of everything) and there's not. Oh and the wi-fi- it's a JOKE. The couch sucks, and the sleeper sofa is really terrible. There's not enough places for four people to sit in the condo that "sleeps" four. The kitchen table is the size of the postage stamp. You couldn't come in from the day and take a nap if two folks wanted to do so, b/c the couch sucks. No Flat Screen tv, no dvd player, two barstools when there should be three. The ONLY positive is that it's close to Terry Peak. Like within walking distance close. We called at 3:30 today to get an extra blanket -3 hours later it's still NOT here. If you want to stay close to the mountain and don't intend to cook, rock on, but if you intend to bring your family and budget for this trip, you might look elsewhere. If we weren't already RCI members, I'd never stay here again. This is the poorest RCI resort I've ever been at. SUPER disappointed.
