Headers and Footers - the way you want them One of your biggest requests (especially those of you who use Docs to write academic papers) is to be able to customize how headers and footers appear on the first pages of your documents.
With today’s updates, you can now use different headers and footers on the first pages of your documents, which comes in handy for: > Following academic formatting guidelines (e.g. MLA, CMS, APA) > Starting page numbering on the second page > Making a title page without headers or footers
After inserting a header or footer in your document you’ll see a new checkbox--just tick it and you’ll be able to set a different header and footer on the first page.
There’s also a new Insert > Page Number menu that lets you customize how and where you start your page numbers--like on the bottom of the second page, for example.
How common is it for a student's GAFE account to become "corrupt?" One of my IT folks has said it's impossible for him to repair a student's account. If that is true, can we just get them another account?
Boom! Google Classroom users can now quickly add *co-teachers* to assignments they "ingest" (slurp, yum... burp) through Doctopus. Beyond the newfound glories of seamless co-teaching, why might you ingest your Classroom assignment with Doctopus?
- Gain access to the Goobric web app for a superior in-browser, rubric-based grading workflow that doesn't compromise rich, real-time feedback for simplicity. Now with audio comments. Once you go Goobric you'll never go back. - Gather live analytics on student progress within their assignments -- everything from word count to number of revisions and comments pulls back to the Doctopus roster sheet. - Bulk send merged (a.k.a personalized) feedback emails to students right from your grading sheet.

Can someone point me to the research that supports the use of close reading as a reading intervention strategy? I know that the mechanics of close reading aligns with what the "Badger Exam" will assess in Wisconsin, but what happens when kids understand the "mechanics" of close reading and still cannot comprehend what they are reading?
I have TONS of research from Allington, Ivey, Guthrie and others that concludes that engaging struggling readers and getting them to read texts that interest them/they enjoy leads to improved student achievement, but I cannot find a single piece of actual RESEARCH that supports close reading.
I don't know about the research ... but I do know that the way that we are using CLOSE READINGS in 6th grade does help with both the conventions, author's craft and comprehension that transfers to the other pieces. I am in full agreement that students finding the "Just-Right-Book" is what grows each reader and leads them to be life long readers. GOOD question. Maybe Kathy Block or Lois Graper knows the research end. ???
